SV M&P - Note of interest

Jack, VS813414 is real, in my opinion. I have seen and examined this gun about 5 yrs. ago. It's in ( or was ) the collection of a S&WCA member. The V and the S stamps, on the butt, are the correct size factory stamps, and very slightly out of line with each other, indicating the two letters were not stamped at the same time. 6 in. barrel, Blued gun w/o a butt swivel. Ed.

Was it factory lettered? Any pictures available? By "w/o a butt swivel," does that mean a plugged swivel hole or no swivel hole?

DWalt, The swivel hole in the butt was factory plugged. Jack, I'll see the owner in a couple weeks and find out if he still has the gun, and take it from there. I don't think he ever lettered the gun, but I'll find out. I have a color printer copy of an online photo of the gun's butt showing the serial number, VS813414, in my files, that I must have made sometime ago, but I didn't date it. Ed.

Other than one anecdotal reference, no one seems to have ever seen this gun or verified its existence. I list the serial number in my database, but in the notes box I wrote, "A mythical gun?" I'd love it if this revolver actually showed up sometime. I don't think I will hold my breath.

Are the stocks of the prewar style? With that serial number, it seems very likely to me.
Have you lettered this gun? If so, would you post the date of shipment?
