I shot my mod 66, that I bought in 1977 or 78 new, yesterday and was very pleased with it. I havent shot it in years, and I put 6 shots in 4 in bulls eye at 20 yds. I am 74 years old and my eyes are not as good as once were, but I was very satisfied with this. I love the mod 66. Mine has 4 in barrel.

Good on you for getting out and shooting! Now, go buy a M 617 with a 4" barrel and take the two out to the range about once a month. Shoot 50 rounds thru the 22 LR and then 12 rounds of mild 38 Spec. and then 6 rounds of 357 Mag thru the M 66. You will have done a nice refresher exercise. You will be amazed at how well you can shoot the magnum after the practice with the 22 LR.

Also, as you progress, speed up your presentation. IF your Range allows you to do so, practice by drawing from a good waist holster. Purchase a holster that the M 617 will fit as the M 66 will fit it too. ...... Keep us informed. .......

High Standard

Hello dlay! I just found a high standard Model B at LGS. Neat old gun. Haven't picked it up yet. Is there a forum or other place to get some info?
Don't want to hijack this thread. Maybe I'll post up on the "other" forum when I get it home.

Good shooting DLAY and I too love my 66 - it replaced a 19 I sold many years ago! Never liked SS but now I have two - the 66 and a 60!

That nicely takes care of your 38/357 needs unless you want to shoot a whole lot of hot loads (read "Models 686 & 627.") You've got a couple of real winners there! :)

Froggie

PS It appears that your Model 66 is the very desirable early one with recessed chambers and stainless sights (and no dash number.) Both guns being pinned gives them added desirability. Yes, they are both real winners in my book. Congratulations!

My 66 no dash is pinned and recessed also, so is my mod 60. My 66 has the black rear sight, not as old as this one. I think mine is 1977 mfg.
