Saw it too. I have not seen one in person but if it works out as well as my 1911PD, it will be great. Generally I am no big fan of the super-short barrelled .45 autos, but I think some progress has been made with them, and I have been considering giving one another try. I was a bit disappointed with my original Colt LW Officer's ACP, but by today's standards, I suppose it is pretty dated.

I haven't read the article but I have handled the gun. S&W had one at the Shot Show. Shawn McCarver and I studied it for a while, we even tried to field strip it but didn't get the job done. The model on display was very smooth but you would expect that at a trade show.

I compared it to the Para Lite Hawg and the Colt Defender. All things being equal, I like the Smith just because I know how good my other SW1911s have been and the fact Smith will back their product up.

I contacted S&W about the availability of this model.

Got an email back yesterday from them, saying they should be available "sometime this summer."

I am anxiously awaiting this pistol
