I wonder if SW would sell replacement cylinders in titanium for revolvers? I have a newer 325 TR with a scandium frame and a stainless steel cylinder. I was thinking how it might be if I could install a titanium cylinder instead. Anyone know of such a thing?

The .357 mag cylinder will fit any .38 or .357 j frame.
I started to put one on a 642 but was afraid at some point someone would drop a magnum round in there.

S&W used to have titanium cylinders available for .38 revolvers that they would sell.
I bought one.

Now that they don't make a Ti .38 anymore they only offer the .357 cylinder.

Probably other calibers too if they actually make a gun in that caliber with a Ti cylinder.

A few used to show on gunparts.com but I've not seen any in a while.

Your gun is a .45 right?
And they also make the same size cylinder in a titanium?
If so, all you should have to do would be get a Ti cylinder and install your existing extractor in it.
That's all it took on the .38s that we were doing for a while.

I got a spare titanium 44 special cylinder from Numrich for the 396 but may instead play with putting it in a 696.
This would be mostly to change the throat dimensions.
Thanks for the idea!
Sometimes Gunparts will have stuff that does not show up online.
A phone call may help.

There were a number of .45 ACP titanium cylinders available some years back. I got a couple but don't remember from who.

Titanium Cylinder: 625

I sent an inquiry to S&W several weeks back to see if a titanium cylinder for a 625 was available. I received the following response;

"We don't offer a titanium cylinder for a 625. Sorry."

I would think a cylinder for a 325 could be fit to a 625. Both being N frame 45acps. My TI cylinder is going to stay right on my 325, unless I get tired of the snappy recoil and replace it with a steel one. My 369 came with a steel cylinder that I replace with a TI one from Midway. Had to change out the extractor to get it to time. Could have filed ratchet on new cylinder, but way easy to change on new type cylinders as opposed to the old 2 pin types, where most of the time the pins would not line up right changing extractors.

325 Cylinder

In the S&W online catalog, the current 325 lists the cylinder material as Stainless Steel. I was hoping they were still made with Titanium.

When I first got a 242TI -- 7 shot L frame 38 special -- gunparts had the TI cylinders on sale. Picked up one as a spare. I think it only cost about $65.

Haven't needed it yet, but I did pick up another 242TI so now I have two.

More recently, Midway had the 5 shot J frame TI 357 Magnum cylinders on sale.

That one I might put into my 642 at some point -- and convert it to a 342TI. But, wouldn't shoot 357 Magnum in it.

Titanium Cylinder

The PD is not in the current catalog. Nor does anyone have a PD cylinder cylinder in stock as far as my I can tell :)

The 325PD's had a Sc frame & a Ti cylinder.

The 325TR's have a Sc frame & a black SS cylinder.
