SW1911 or ?

One other trick to the S&W is to keep your hand off the grip safety when putting the slide back on the frame. If you press the grip safety in, the lever that deactivates the firing pin safety pops up and prevents the slide from going back on.
The only other thing is common to all 1911s, which is to be careful when re-inserting the slide stop to avoid scratching the frame.

YUP! dealt with all that! very true ....every time, but still worth it! and the 'idiot scratch' is just a 1911 thing, can happen to any of 'em

Were I in the market for another sub-$1K 1911, I'd go with either a S&W or a Dan Wesson. My experience with both makes has made me a fan of each. So if your sights are pinned on a S&W, I think you've made a wise choice. Having said that, if you have an opportunity to inspect a DW in your area, you may want to do that before buying to compare...it'd be an interesting exercise, if nothing else.
