SW1911 TFP first box of ammo

Fired my new SW1911 TFP and I like it. I do have some FTF but, I think it needs to break in a little. I used six different mags. USGI, ACT (came with gun) and a 15rd stick (3 FTF).

If those were failure to fires, makes sure you have the grip safety depressed all the way. I learned the hard way.. how to grip a 1911... gripping it like my M&P didn't work well.

The high capacity (11 rounds and up) 1911 magazines are usually junk. Some of the newer 10 rounders from current recognized makers are about all you can hope for. If you find one that works reliably, you will be ahead of any of the folks I have shot them with. Don't form any opinions about your pistol's reliability with that magazine.

The ACT mags work fine in mine...also...if it is a 108309, there is no "80 series" type of grip safety or trigger based safety, that is why the titanium firing pin. Was it cleaned and lubed prior to firing...some need that...Get a few Wilson mags...mine came with 3 act mags and all work fine...they are what I carry in it at work. I have one Wilson also, so I have 3 on the belt and one in the gun. Good luck with it...I hope yours is as reliable as mine has been. Stay away from the GI mags and the high caps for 1911s...usually trouble.

....also.....after cleaning her after shooting, i wipe her dry, then apply a light coat of Breakfree on all parts, then let one drop hit each rail surface inside the slide...one drop each side while holding slide upside down...let the drop run towards the front, then re-assemble...works for me....I do all my autos that way....I have seen co-workers dry the gun completely with compressed air then re-assemble...just not for me...

I learned many years ago that if you want to function-test a 1911, you use known good quality magazines.

Using misc "GI" mags or some company's "hi-cap" 1911 mag ... or poor quality ammunition, for that matter ... isn't the way to try and eliminate the potential mag & ammo influences when wanting to check the reliability of the gun itself. Especially when using hollowpoints.

1911's are usually less tolerant of grip techniques which don't have proper hand/backstrap contact, either.

Just my thoughts.

Mine will not feed the last round in hot loads like double tap. Not a real problem just an observation. I found this out when I gave that ammo a try for kicks. And it does kick.

I agree with everyone that has posted the FTF's are probably due to the mags. This mirrors my experience as well.

S&W sent me a Chip McCormack 10 round mag after I sent them a Mag that had a broken bottom cap...factory act mag...replaced at no cost. Works perfectly after 200 plus rounds.
