Hello. I have a new SW1911SC and have only put 50 rounds through it so far...I like the pistol and the way it feels in my hand and really like the way it shoots but have a question. I must drop the magazine after racking the slide before I can release the slide stop lever to allow the slide to move forward. Is this normal for this firearm or is there something wrong with mine?

That may be difficult...hence the term "holster wear". I had this made by Ray Lobo with a suede lining and will hope for the best, but I bought this gun as my colder weather carry piece and will carry it regardless of wear. The only way to avoid that first rock chip or door nick on a new car is to leave it in the garage and not drive it...the wear and tear can be reduced with mindful care but to never use it is not for me. Shoot it, carry it, enjoy it! That's why you have it, right?
Having said that I have a 19-3 2 1/2" with the most beautiful blue of any gun I own...I have never shot it. BUT, I didn't buy it to shoot it, I bought it because it was so d***** good looking! I have other 19's and 66's to shoot. So maybe your answer is another 1911!

I use a Garrett Industries "silent thunder" IWB holster. Kydex with a leather liner. Got one for my Springfield EMP when they first came out and love it!

Try a different mag. I would bet if you look it's the follower hanging up on the edge of the mag body. A different slide stop can work too. I have had this with colts it is a combo of both part working together. Usually the mag that comes with the gun doesn't do this and it's also these two parts not playing nice that keeps the slide from locking back on some empty mags. Better to have your problem as it won't effect a quick reload.
The stock 8 round mag isn't the best. The 7 round is really nice and use all the time. Now I have invested in Wilson combat etm 8 rounders and have never had another problem with it. I use it uspsa matches with the Wilson's. during matches I use a blade tech kydex, but when cc I use a desantis lined leather owb with thumb break just for extra security. Holster wear all depends how tight and clean. Holster with lining will help but not prevent. After 2 years of shooting uspsa matches with it and the finish still looks very good, melinite I think?

You should be able to drop the slide with the loaded magazine in place by thumbing down the slide stop lever. In order to do it with an empty magazine in place, it is easier to use the support hand to hold the slide fully to the rear, thus relieving the pressure on the slide stop lever, then use the support hand to ease the slide forward. Do not let the slide slam shut on an empty chamber. The downward pressure is not terribly difficult, but it requires some strength in the thumb. On the other hand, if it is difficult or impossible, you need it serviced.
