The great thing about the 1911 is everybody and their cousin makes parts for it. Buy a plain Jane base gun and customize as you can afford it. Everybody needs at least one 1911. I own or have owned the 38 Super, 9mm, 10mm, 45ACP, and .22 LR versions and am contemplating building a .40S&W. You can even start with just the frame from a number of sources ( Caspian/Foster is a good place to start)and build it a piece at a time. Once you buy the frame, which according to the law is "the gun", the remainder of the parts can be ordered as you need or can afford them.
