I waited a while before I found an affordable M63 N/D on GB, the full package price of $1000 was a bit hard to swallow so I settled on the gun only and saw prices for $600-$800 for the gun only and arrived at this being the one to take home. It was previously owned by a gunsmith and the action is as crisp as they come. You got to love these little 63's. I purchased this one for $580 before the additional shipping and FFL cost. I cleaned it up and applied a coat of Ren wax and this is what I ended up with.

They unfortunately don't make them like that anymore. The newer ones are surprisingly good revolvers but you have that ugly lock and MIM triggers and hammers. You have a nice one there, thanks for sharing.

Beautiful classic revolver, handy, useful, quality built, no longer made, fun to shoot by anyone, good for teaching new shooters, good looking, easy to carry, ammo is readily available, will maintain its value, its cool, and it will last a few lifetimes with minimal care. That is a great gun at any cost.

Yes the full package refers to many I passed on with a nice clean 80% condition correct box, with all the paper work. I know it is a good investment but I usually seek out a nicer affordable gun only and if the box and papers only adds a $100 or so go for it. In this case it seemed all the "complete packages were in the $800-$100 range.

I paid $260 for mine, bought new in April 1981. Only my second revolver after my nickel model 19. Who knew what that was starting back then. Great little guns, Enjoy the heck out of that one.

In 1995 I bought a 63 and a Winchester 140 from a buddy who was hurting for cash at the time.
I bought this 63 NIB with the Herrett grips, OEM grips, tools in 1995. Owner had bought it and never fired it.
At the same time also bought a Winchester 140 in 12 ga that he had fired 1 rd of sporting clays. What looks like a mark on the stock is lighting reflection.
Paid $300 for both of them.

I passed up a claimed near mint 4" pinned barrel 63 with the box, docs, and tools last year for $550 asking price.

Didn't feel like driving 250 miles round trip for it. A few days later I was checking GB and felt sick about my bad judgement.

Speaking of bad judgment, I was watching a 63-3 (the snubnose variant) a few years ago on GunBroker. The seller lived in easy driving distance (and in the same state), so I would have saved shipping and transfer fees.

I got preoccupied and missed the end of the auction. Fortunately, I knew the buyer and figured he’d sell it to me. Unfortunately, I paid an extra $200 for the privilege. The price I paid was fair, but I missed out on a bargain.

Here's my 63 no dash that I bought back in 1983...along with the Bianchi holster I bought for it at the same time. It is truly my "kit" gun, as it is always packed in my travel bag, so always with me at camp or traveling etc. (well, except when I'm flying)....they are wonderful guns and thanks for sharing yours with us!!

I picked up this 63 about three years ago. It came with the target stocks and a pinned blue front ramp sight, which I liked. A range visit indicated that the gun shot way low and the grooved trigger tore up my tender trigger finger.

It had a .101 rear sight which was standard. I ordered a .126 rear sight, or at least advertised as such. It turned out that it was a .146, which I installed. It turned out it was exactly the right height. I then found a .312 J frame trigger on the web and installed it. At a gun show I found a set of the combat smooth grips and put those on too. It's just about right now!

I had been thinking about a Model 63 for a while but I too was a little shocked at the prices they were going for. Just before Christmas of 2015 I was at a SouCal gun show and found this one for $475 including the DROS fees and didn't hesitate for a second. No box or papers, just the gun with the standard Magna Stocks. At another table I found these smooth Goncalo Alves Target Stocks for $40 and it was one of those rare gun show days that I didn't pay 20% more than people do in free states for similar items. It shoots quite well, although takes a bit more concentration than a K-22 does.

Sold my only Model 63 a while back due to an issue with empties being extremely hard to eject in 3 of the 6 chambers. I was told that the problem could be fixed, but decided to let someone else deal with it.

Possibly a worn out chamber reamer or something during manufacture.
Never had that problem with any of my other stainless or blue S&W .22's.

In 1978 I went to a gunshop to get a .22lr revolver. The owner convinced me to get a new stainless .22lr revolver(model 63). I put my money down and had it ordered without even seeing one. I shot almost any ammo that was on sale and every brand shot great. Nice to own a revolver that will shoot all ammo pretty good.
I added Herrett grips and had a custom holster made in Alpine, TX for $35.00. It has provided me with numerous rabbit and grouse meals the last 40 years.

Ed Rodek Rodek Leather Works – Welcome to Rodek Leather Works! made this holster for my 63. I've worn it a lot hunting, hiking and around the farm in all kinds of weather including exposed to rain and snow. He made it in about 1996 and it's still like the day he made it.

Bought my model 63 four years ago. It is a 1980 manufacture. Found a nice vintage S&W holster at a yard sale for it. Took original numbered grips off and put on square butt J frame (NOS) target grips I purchased off EBay. The square butt J frame targets are hard to find.

Great revolver and glad I purchased it when I did as prices have continued to rise since then.

Of course that was back in May 1982

My inflation calculator tells me that $232 in 1982 would be $599.96 in 2018 dollars. 158.6% inflation.
