So I was deer hunting last winter, shot at a decent sized doe. I didn't find any blood trail, but I was 99% that I could not have missed a shot like that. I searched for 90 minutes that night until it got dark. Set out again at sunrise for another 4 hours with no success. I gave up.
Yesterday after work, on my birthday, I go mushroom hunting. The first 90 minutes with no luck. I stumble upon a draw that I rairly walk along, and see the remains of a big doe carcus. The area I was in is not hunted (for deer or mushrooms) heavily so I deduce that this is my missing doe from last winter. I know it is a reach to determine "without a doubt" this is the same deer, but I know I could not have missed a shot like that. About 10 yards from the carcus is a slew of morels! After that point in my walk/hunt I had good luck with the mushrooms!
Moral of the morel story is two fold...
1. There is always a morel just over the ridge.
2. I could NOT have missed a shot like that.
