SWS Brass Deflector is now available

Then don't mount it that way! :) I'm not sure why it should "really" bother you, but to each his own.

On mine the end of the block is flush with the end of the rail. That puts the end of the deflector about 3/8" from the built-in deflector. I haven't been to the range with it yet, but I don't see any particular problem with the gap.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I see no reason why it will not still deflect the spent casing downward, though I will have to verify with a trip to the range. :D

then it would look completely perfect and cutom made for the rifle. .

Though it IS custom made for the rifle, regardless of how it looks. Just sayin'.

If you mount it with the attatchment block even, then it leaves a larger gap at the end where the factory deflector is. I think that gap may be to large allowing brass to get by. If you look at the original pictures the ones that were first posted, SWS shows the block even with the end of the Picatinny rail. The pics that went up a little later show the gap at the factory deflector,on those pictures the attachment block is placed further back. All I saying is if you lengthen the deflector 3/8 of an inch it would be perfect all around. Nothing wrong with making it perfect.

deflector

First of all.... this is my first post. I was going to purchase the M&P-15 last February, but I bought a Henry Golden Boy instead as it's more my style. With the frenzy going on, I decided to get the M&P 15-22 while it was still available at the end of December. Got it and then all the CCI mini-mag became unavailable...Oh well...... I'm strictly a .22 shooter and don't have any thoughts of home self-defense. I'm pretty computer illeterate and don't know how to post pics, but I've bought a bunch of accesories for this rifle and am really digging the **** out of it especially after going to the indoor range a few times. I've made this web site a priority for daily viewing as I've gotten quite a bit of knowledge about the gun . Especially about how to properly clean it. I guess I'm just posting to say hello. One more thing, I contacted the manufacturer of the brass deflector anh he replied that the deflector does deflect the shells.\, but it mars the finish of the gun......

Wow, get a good product and start complaining about it right off the bat. :)

How about shooting a few hundred rounds through it and see if there's a real problem to deal with? And perfect is an opinion; It "perfect" to me as it stands. :)

Welcome aboard. And marks on a firearm show that it's actually used and not a safe queen. All of my firearms (including some very expensive ones) show use. :)

BTW, I'm not sure how you mar a polymer finish ...

...sit flush with the angled end of the picatinny rail, and not hang off the edge of it...

That is how I installed it, and yes there is a gap but it functioned as designed and no cases escaped.

I did have the same thought and expected to have to move it back to the last slot with the mount sticking out beyond the rail but based on limited testing (~300 rounds) it didn't seem necessary.

I know I'm a bit ANAL about stuff....

But I really like to keep my stuff in great shape. A little bit about me.....I'm a paddler who likes to camp out of my boats and have a bit of fun shooting .;22's I have 14 different canoes and Kayaks and I use them all for the right scenerios of where I'm paddling. The real concern I have right now is that so many states are enacting new rules as to what is legal as far as mags. I was fortunately able to get 4 ten round long mags that "MIGHT" be converted to the larger capacity(Don't want to incriminate myself) from S&W before the backlog of orders everywhere. If I could only find some Mini-Mags.....

Put some painters tape on the side of the gun? Not saying that will look any better, but hey it should protect it while shooting.

Again, what's to protect? If one doesn't want marks on their firearm, put it in the safe and don't shoot it. :D

FWIW, I have had a home-made deflector on my 15-22 for a few months and there's not a single mark from ejecting brass anywhere on the lower receiver. I put this in the same category as folks asking how to prevent wear marks on the end of a pistol's slide from carrying it in a holster. My response ... stop carrying the pistol. :)

Good to hear, I think I will leave it with the bigger gap in back then. Pictures were a little confusing as far as I concerned, because it can't be both ways. Thanks:D

Not everyone is like you, I happen to be one of those people like canube that likes things to look perfect. My 03 Vet looks better then when it came from the factory, just the way we are:D

Sure, each to his own. Where I come from, in Mississippi, a gun is a tool... not a work of art. Around here, if your tools aren't worn & beat up, you ain't been working too hard. :)

Must be a Redneck thing because I still have tools and a 25+ year old 4K Niagra Generator from my Dad that still look and run like new.

I realize that a firearm is actually a tool....

But for me. it's not a tool that I would use very often... For me. it's more of a very seldom recreational situation where I get the inclination to exersize my rights to own and use whatever caliber firearms I would like to own and use. to each his own as I would like to say....

Most certainly. We even have a saying down here about those of us that aren't so bright. "He sure ain't the sharpest tool in the shed". That doesn't bother me because from my experience, the sharpest tool in the shed generally is one that hasn't been used. I have been used. :)

That's the difference. I've been shooting some of my firearms for over 40 years and currently shoot about 15k or more a year, including .22 LR, 9mm and .40 S&W. It's a rare outing that I shoot less than 500 rounds of .22 and another 200 rounds of 9 and .40. FWIW, my High Standard match .22 was built in '63 and my Garand in '43, rebuilt in '85. Everything I have is in excellent condition but not a single one is what one would consider "pristine". Pristine firearms have no character, they're just pretty. :)

The Anal thing.......

Well I really like the looks of the deflector and I'm thinking no painter's tape. But a couple layers of electrical tape might be my solution...

More about myself.....

Quite frankly, I'm a product of the late 60"s, early 70's..... I really don't get all this stuff about the huge numbers of new CCW permit owners. I can appreciate an individual's concern and motivation to qualify for a permit, but I personally don't feel the need. I am very fortunate to live in the area I do as it seems to be a VERY safe .area. We all know it could change in an instant.....

I'll second the suggestion of determining if there's an issue before coming up w/ a solution.

I haven't used this particular deflector but I've got no marks/wear of any sort around the ejection port after somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.5-3K rounds using the ghetto deflector setup (45 degree rail mount w/ rail ladder). I'm not sure what functional difference there's going to be between what I've been using and the SWS deflector but I wouldn't expect much.

To each their own though.
