Just try not to show how pissed you are when she outshoots you with your favorite gun.

Taking wife to range for first time... need advice

That pretty much sums up my first shooting experience with my wife 27 years ago.
She was hitting paper at 10 feet, but I could tell the weight was bothering her.
I can see a 4 inch Model 34 or 63 in the near future if the date nights become regular happening.
I'm hoping by the end of the year she will be confident enough to take the CCW class.
She has mentioned more than a few times, uneasiness about walking out alone after work, walking to her car at the mall parking lot...
My secret long term plan is by then she can handle .38 Special out of a recently purchased Model 19 snub.... or maybe a Glock 26 or whatever auto she may grow into.
Worse case scenario she totes a .22 of some vintage and make.

wnr700, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who looks forward to "date night" at the range. My wife Luscious and I have been married over 31 years and anytime we can find something we both like to do, we go for it. We learned to shoot together, took out CCW together and even though I'm at the range twice as often as she, we regularly go as a couple at least three times a month.
A little advice when it comes to being armed. As much as "off-body carry" is disliked, the fact is that most (some?) women prefer to carry in a purse.
Check out Coronado Leather. As well as being a good holster, Luscious says their quality purse-wise is the best. Should be, they ain't cheap by any means.
Oh, and be careful with "secret plans". If she thinks you are trying to manipulate her, she'll never go again whether she likes to shoot or not, just to prove a point.

Now you have a valid reason to get a Kit Gun, 34, or 63.
When I first met my wife she did not like guns because her first husband took her to the range with a .44 Magnum. After 10 years or so of being married to me I finally got her to the range and started her on my Kit Gun, she moved up the ladder to a K-38 but she soon went back to the Kit Gun and the .22 bolt action rifle. A J-22 makes a dandy training tool as well as a fine companion piece for the Ohio woods.

My wife shoots my Python with .38's and my Buckmark. Everything else is too much. Let her decide the pace and have fun!
She just brought up how much fun she had, and how excited she is to try the Taurus snubbie in the rental case. Also said something about how well it would fit in her purse, and how she wanted to work on her aim. 
Much of her uneasiness, (I think) is due to her Army Ranger ex-husband and a ND she witnessed at a friends house. She mentioned a not fun larger caliber session they shared.
Got alot of hurdles to cross, but it seems very promising, because she would flat out tell me if she liked or disliked the "date"...
It helps that it's only a two lane range and we are forced to rent both lanes, thus not large caliber neighbors to deal with...
The Range Marshall was friendly, encouraging, and helpful.

Not sure which state you live in, but if you could get her into a CCW class and eventually have her get a permit to carry (concealed)...mission accomplished! Just make sure your gun is ALWAYS bigger than hers.
Don't take her. She'll steal your guns. Mine did. And she shoots better than me, too.
