I am looking to buy one last hi-cap pistol before the Obomination has a chance to enact a ban. Was looking at the Springfield XD, FNH USP, and a few others. I originally wanted something with a thumb safety, but have narrowed my search down to one of the M&P compacts. I know there is an M&P 45 with a thumb safety - but only in full size.

I believe there are adapters that allow one to use full size M&P mags in the compacts.

How do these work out (reliability)?
Where can they be obtained?
What is the cheapest source of M&P (factory) full size mags?

And one final question. Should I go with 40S&W or 9mm?

Thanks in advance. Fun show coming up in two weeks. I hate to impulse buy at the fun shows, as every time I do I end up selling the guns. So research is key!

I see that CDNN used to have them in stock, as did Top Gun Supply. I image they are gone like most Hi-caps because of the pending coronation of the Obomanation.

Gee, that would really suck to buy a gun and not be able to get ample Hi-caps in time.

Didn't recognize the web page at first, but that's the same outfit where I bought mine from; Rich Shafer is the name behind the company, excellent service, and I recommend him and his products. I also bought a mag carrier for the M&P. One of these days, a holster will be next.

Yes,

That is the exact setup I was thing about. Best of both worlds. Compact concealed carry when you want and full cap when you want that too!

How do you like your M&P? Is it accurate? Any problems with it? Do you miss a manual safety?

I see that Crimson Trace even makes laser grips for the compact. The deal is almost sealed if I can find someone that has the hi-cap mags in stock. I sure don't want to be stuck without any when Obomination strikes his dirty deal.

I absolutely love the feel of the M&P. It carries well, has been reliable so far, is relatively accurate (is probably more accurate than I'm capable of shooting), and I think is a decent value. It's my favorite carry piece.

As far as 9 vs. 40, that will be a personal preference for you. Mine is a 9, and gets carried probably 9 months out of the year. The other three months (when the zombies wear coats) I carry a 40 caliber GLOCK.

My thoughts were exactly like yours - "best of both worlds" - the high cap mag in the compact gun, but in all reality, and in practice, I've used it exactly - once at the range, just to make sure it works. It was a pretty tight fit at first (mag had a hard time snapping into battery), but a little fine grit sand paper wrapped around a block of wood, and it fits perfectly now. Go for it - variety is the spice of life!

I've had a M&P 45 for more than a year and have put thousands of rounds through it with out issue and found it to be verry accurate. Due to the size I can only catty it when I'm going to wear a coat. Awhile ago I got to shoot a M&P compact 9mm at the range. I ordered one the same day! For a compact I prefer 9mm but it's a person preference.

I have a 9mm compact and a 9mm full size.
My compact has never failed to work. I did have doubts because it acted like it might not want to feed if there were something slightly wrong, like a slightly weak recoil spring.
I sent it back to S&W and they replaced the barrel. Its still never failed to work but it did take care of the hesitation that concerned me.
My guess is some of the early ones had slightly out of spec barrels in the feed ramp area. I think it highly unlikely you would have a problem with it.

I now own 5 M&Ps.

Full size 9mm
Compact 9mm
Full Size 45
Mid size 45
Compact 45

The 9mm and .40 compacts are significantly smaller than the 45 compact. My 45 compact is brand new and hasn't been to the range yet. But it has the best "feel" of the compacts for me.

I also like the midsize 45. It's very close size wise to the full size 9mm.

Of all of these, I shoot the full size 9mm the best. Probably because the 45's have a heavier trigger pull.

All of these M&Ps have functioned flawlessly.
