If you had the actual description of thread pitch and diameter, a machine shop supply house might be able to help you. There might be one on the internet that you could search the inventory of. I'm not talking about a hardware store, rather a supply house an industrial machine shop purchases at.

thanks, just tried msc and they have one listed under made in us brand taps 9/16x32tpi =.562x32tpi
sent an email to manson reamers see if the come up with anything.
Thanks for the help.

Yes, Its the barrel thread. 32threads per inch.
60* measures about 1" of tapper from .551" to .561" i need to clean up the threads in the frame. a 9/16" plug tap(.5625") would be close but I would have to have one in hand to compare to the barrel threads to see how close the are.

Are you measuring the barrel or the frame for your diameter?

Have you checked the drill size for the 9/16 plug tap and compared it to the frame?

Only thing I don't like is the taps on MSC are -NS, the tap on the chart are -NC. I'm not sure what that means.
National Coarse (NC)
National Fine (NF)
National Extra Fine (NEF)
National Special (NS)

thanks to all.

I just got off the phone with Dave manson and he had a really good Idea
On how too chase out the threads on the frame.
Ill use the old barrel cut a few flutes in the threads, set the sholder back and case harden the threads and there you have it a poor mans tap. ill let yu all know how it works out.

Thanks,
Funny though, I find it hard to call 32 pitch
coarse thread.

DCB,
Keep us posted.

It gets confusing. On the linked chart note 9/16-24 UNEF, UNEF (Unifieid National Extra Fine) which used to be NEF (National Extra Fine). Then there's 9/16-32 UN. UN is a thread form where the pitch is constant regardless of bolt diameter. A UN-32 bolt has 32 tpi regardless of diameter. A UNEF has differing tpi's depending on diameter. A 1/4-32 UNEF is also 1/4-32 UN for instance. In MSC's catalog they're showing 9/16-32 as NS (National Special), go figure, it gets confusing.
