I have a Taurus revolver that I really can't find too much info on.

The number inside the crane is 66. It's a 357 mag, with a 2.5 inch barrel. Serial number shows it was made in 93. I can't seem to find any info on the 2.5 inch barrel.

The Taurus model 66 is the Brazilian company's medium frame revolver. Very similar in size to the S&W "K" frame series. The Taurus also looks very similar to the S&W, however the lockwork of the Taurus is a greatly simplified design compared to S&W's.

Most medium frame .38 Spl and .357 Mag Taurus revolvers were available with barrel lengths from 2.5 inches to 6 inches. The older guns, like yours have a full grip frame while newer models made since the 2000's use a stub frame similar to the Ruger GP-100. If you wish to find different grips, amke sure you are getting the correct, old style models.

Thanks for the info. I don't know how rare the 2.5 inch model is. I can't find any for sale on the gun auction sites.

The Taurus and Rossi 2.5 and 3 inch barrel guns seem to be much more scarce than the security guard favorite 4 inch models.
People are keeping the short revolvers for CCW and local gun stores will take them in trade where they would shun a 4 inch Taurus adding to the scarcity.

Stick with .38 Special +P and your Taurus should be a good shooter for quite some time. Wolff springs makes a kit for the older medium frame Taurus 65/66 etc. with a lighter trigger return spring which makes the gun much more shootable. Kit is easy to install too because the Taurus innards are simple.
