Tell me about the model 15 combat masterpiece

Bought this one new in 1978. It's still running, although all the magnum loads I have put through it it developed some end shake. Shims took care of that.

Not a 15 but it acts like one with 38 specials.

Also, my favorite 15.

I bought this 15-2 right before Covid hit for $550 in my local shop. Looks unfired and it still is, and most likely will stay that way. I have other K frames to shoot, but this one is just so pretty. I could change my mind about that. Who knows? For now, I take it out of the safe and admire it a few times a month.

The 2" M-15 has adjustable sights because it's the 2" that thinks it's a 4".

It's here. It's awesome. I'm in love. Added a new BK adapter too. Update. Took this Cadillac out for a road test. It drives real good!

My first S&W was MOD 15 4" in 1975. Carried it as "Special Officer" in NOLA from 1981-84. Still have it and the custom made shoulder holster that I carried the MOD 15 in. Light and accurate , perfect carry gun.
In 1983 I started acquiring Mod 27s and Mod 29s when I started going to Beartooth Wilderness.

Cut-Frame Model 15-2

I hunted for a model 15 that would allow for a Farrant style cut and got this 15-2. The dash 2 seemed to be about the only ones I found that had the serial number toward the backstrap. It is a great shooting gun.

Very nice!

Great pictures of a super S&W revolver model. Here is my 15-3 (1974) that I bought at a local auction about 10 years ago. It has the prettiest high gloss factory stocks I have seen. Also a very light single action trigger pull. Have a S&W branded holsters that came with it. I probably paid more than I should have but like others it called out to me.

Did a thread about the 4" Combat Masterpiece evolution a few years back, I didn't post a link in the previous post because although the OP did actually ask about the Model 15 his gun is the snub varient which is a very different gun which I didn't include in the thread.

If interested here's a link to that thread,

Some Combat Masterpiece eye candy

Let me ask a stupid question: This article is raving about the Model 15. The AF picked the Model 13.

Isn't the only difference in K frames mostly the sights??

The Air Force never issued Model 13s. Model 15s all the way.

The USAF M13 was the model designation for the aircrewman revolvers. Both the S&W and Colt versions were designated M13. No real relationship to the S&W model 13.

The USAF adopted the S&W model 56, which was very similar to a 2-inch Model 15, but had some distinct differences. The USAF also adopted the S&W model 15 in 4-inch, which is a bit more common in private hands than the model 56.
