Hi all,

I just completed a conceal carry lvl 2 course which focused on fundamentals of shooting, drawing, presentation, including speed and accuracy drills. Put a 130 ends downrange as part of the class and some of the funest 130rds I have shot.

I have an 40c with the APEX DCAEK kit already installed and love it, but I noticed something during the class as did the instructor about my trigger control. I have long fingers combined with the long pull of the pistol I tended to roll my finger to get a round off leading to some accuracy issues. Now as the night went on my accuracy improved but I am thinking if I can shorten the pull to break that would help me a bit. At the end of the day I am responsible for every round fired and would like to give myself the best chance of hitting what I am aiming at under a stressful situation.

So my question is, does the Apex AEK kit shorten the pull? Is it worth the money over the abilities of the stock trigger?

Input appreciated!

I have the FSS kit and trigger in my Pro Core. The trigger travel before break is significantly reduced and the overtravel is almost non-existent. Look at post #18 in this thread, I measured the difference between the FSS and stock trigger. http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-m-p-pistols/322411-wow-apex-fss-t-kit.html

You should get the apex FSS kit if you would like to shorten and tune in your trigger it would also cut the over travel out giving you your best shot if the length of pull is your issue.

I thought that was my issue on a few of my pistols but after changing my grip and shooting i found a set grip that worked to where the gun did not yaw left or right when the trigger was pulled. I would suggest doing this with your stock trigger to insure best grip possible with the least finger roll/movement as possible.

I had the polymer AEK trigger installed a few weeks ago. That and the DCAEK kit combined made a great combo, and it does make a huge difference, it's well worth the money to me. In my experience it did shorten the pull and the break was so much cleaner. The stock hinged trigger was just so awkward for me and this thing really made it feel right

AEK are made in DCAEK (Duty/Carry) and Comp AEK (Competition). In both kits, the trigger action is similar, as far as take-up, sear pull, and over-travel. The Comp AEK kit gets lower pressure trigger, sear and striker springs, which allow for around 2 1/2 pounds less trigger pull pressure, than the DC kit.

Their FSS kit sounds more like what you want. It does move the break point forward a little, and it removes most of the pre-travel. However in the videos I have seen of the FSS Kit, the amount the break point is moved forward, is not much. It looks like about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch, at the most. Your post sounds like you want it moved much more, guessing about 3/8 to 1/2 inch, and the FSS Kit will not move the break point near that amount. I have the Apex DCAEK kit and with spring changes I have reduced trigger pull pressure to under 4 pounds.

Thanks for the responses.

Yes I am looking to shorten the pull to break, the more the better. But I will take anything I can get.

I have done quite a bit of grip and trigger practice over the weekend and trigger pull I'd better but moving the break point would be nice.

Tried the larger back strap also to see if that helped. It didn't and I didn't like how it felt in the hand either.

I recommend starting with the apex duty kit first, see how you like it, then buy a polymer AEK trigger, it's cheaper than the aluminum and looks proper. shooting became such a different experience after I installed both
