The French President is calling it a terror attack. Masked gunmen armed with machine guns (according to early news reports) attacked a French newspaper office in Paris, killing approximately 11 people.

Of course, here, this would be considered workplace violence.

yes, it is close to my home, 2 policemen have been killed to during the shootout; they were here to protect this very well knows satiric newspaper; there is up to now 12 dead people, a lot of wounded persons. The 2 or 3 killers have shouted islamic words before leaving the scene , said in short word that..." allah was avenged". Sad days for us.

France has an absurdly open immigration policy. Now they are paying for it. I didn't know automatic AKs were legal in France?
Not more or less than other country!!
Please we are paying for nothing.
And no aautomatic weapons are allowed in france; do you think really that terrorist buy their weapons in gunshop?

it seems the whole world is under attack by certain terrorists . be for we let them in they should undergo a background check. this is ridiculous or just stop them from coming in from known countries that live by terrorist beliefs
you are right....that said it is hard to background check every one migrating in another country! Yes we have a big problem with that kind of guys (islamics)
The killers are extrem islamists, very well trained, they have shot medodically poeple inside the office, and have finished of a wounded cop in the street.

Sorry to hear about your troubles

Lemme guess the newspaper wrote something about Mohammed that was in less than positive light?

I'm really sorry that another attack has happened, and that twelve more people are dead.

I heard on the news: that three police were sent to the paper before the attack to protect it, but they had no guns. They said that local police in general could carry guns, but most don't by their own decision. Would that wounded cop be alive today if he had decided differently??

You are wright; it was few years ago, it was a satirical cartoons against " the prophete Mahommet". More recently against Daech in Syrie (with a very satirical cartoons but funny) that i cannot and would not reproduce here. Most of this well known (in France) cartoonists (Cabu, Wolinsky...) have been killed (executed).

Wow. Protect it with what, staplers?

Cop choosing not to carry a gun is totally beyond me... and a little surprising, I was in Paris a few years ago and there were police very visibly roaming around the Eiffle Tower with SMGs.

The same thing would have happened at the New York Times or the Cleveland Plain Dealer... if either of them ever did anything that could conceivably offend the perpetrators... about as likely as Bigfoot and Amelia Earhart being caught in a compromising situation in a cheap motel down by the Cleveland airport.

I don't know if "he " was not armed (there were only one cop to protect the newspaper office); the others policemen were armed and open the fire againts the killers (wearing bulletproof vests); there is already few iphone movies and audio about the shootout.

patvince,

I am so sorry to learn of this incident in your country. We grieve for the loss of your fellow citizens.

Prayers from Texas are offered for strength, comfort and peace for the family and friends of those murdered without cause.

I hope the murderers are located and brought to justice soon and do not harm any others.

The weird thing is that these days, the French are FAR more likely to do something appropriately over the top in response than we are.

But I guess that requres you to loathe those who would kill you more than you loathe yourself...

Thank you very much Sir.
I hope and think they will be arrested......time will tell; but IMO, they won't let them arrest simply raising their hands up....
