Howdy,
My dad, Texas Star, is back in the hospital. He first went back in shortly before Christmas due to both leg and lung infections. The short version is: about a week ago he tested positive for covid, and as of three days ago he started showing symptoms (chiefly, respiratory). Given his age, still-current lung infection and pre-existing issues (asthma, myasthenia gravis, and his very recently diagnosed congestive heart failure), we're concerned, to say the least.
He's currently on bipap, and it's a daily struggle to keep him high enough on oxygen. When I spoke with his doctor yesterday afternoon, she said a ventilator is usually the next step, but won't be used should he further decline (for reasons I can't shortly get into). Should it get to that point, Nature will take its course. Though we maintain hope, his doctor told me to expect the worst. We've been told that about him, before, only to see him bounce back, but that is the current word from the doctor.
I was able to briefly speak with him yesterday--a nurse helped by answering his phone, putting it on speaker and holding it for him. Among the things we discussed was his request that I go ahead and post here about it all. As I've mentioned in the past, he greatly values this place/all of you, and he would appreciate being in your thoughts and prayers.
I'll update as I get any meaningful news. Thanks, Y'all.
