Here is a link to the S&W site page for the new SD series pistols. It shows a picture of the " textured finger indicator ". I'm guessing it's purpose is to help the shooter know where to place his trigger finger when doing anything other than actually shooting with a pistol in hand. Any other guesses ? Is it a good idea or kind of silly ? At first blush I kind of like it especially when thinking about teaching new self defense shooters safe gun handling skills although certainly not necessary.

I believe you're spot on, and agree that it makes a great teaching aide. Personally, I don't care for it.

I might be wrong here, but I think those finger locators are to help you keep a consistent grip.
When you draw, if you have your finger on that spot, you (in theory) will have the grip in your hand the proper way every time.

"Textured Finger Indicator"

It is a"Textured Finger Locator" , not indicator. This is very handy at my age- I misplace stuff all the time. I haven't come up missing any fingers, but it won't surprise me.

A Finger Indicator is rude, and should not be used here. :D

I've never misplaced a finger while shootin!

I guess there's a first time for everything, though! LOL!

Did a search but didn't find the thread about the lack of this feature on the Sigma a while back. Purpose is to remind shooter to keep finger off of the trigger until ready to fire.Could be a help to some, not a problem for anyone.

"Thumb locator" for your support hand thumb?

IDK...but I keep the thumb from my support hand near that spot when shooting my Sigma two handed. Looks like the textured spot is for right handers only.

I've got a Taurus Mil Pro that has that feature......believe it or not, it is very noticeable and comfortable when between rounds at the range. Too bad it is not much of a range gun, though. That reminds me....I should get it out of the locker dust it off........LOL

I don't know that its hurting anything. I doubt adding a little shaped patch of texture on the side of an extruded polymer frame added .001 cents to the production cost of the pistol.

This pistols future will hinge on the new 8Lb triggers break.
