That's What I Like About the South . . . .

I was astounded by how the Baptism pictures turned out. Not so much by the quality, but the way the "illumination" of the subjects turned out. I took them hurriedly with my iPhone. Didn't take time for composing or setting up, etc. The event was at a place on our Church grounds where a small stream and a larger one come together. The stream is almost totally covered with overhanging trees and bushes this time of year. Somehow a ray of light shone on the Preacher and the "dunkee." Usually the iPhone will even these things out without lighting part of the picture. Not this time. To a believer such as I am, it can't be just happenstance.

Careful of those baptizing holes. One of my two snakebites came from swimming in one when I was a kid.
One question though, where are the pics of the blackberry or peach cobbler????

Redlevel, I can recall the baptisms in Lookout Creek when I was a kid. The place was below an old grist mill and dam. The mill was burned by an arsonist when I was about 13 years old.
Small Southern towns, woods to explore, streams to fish, miles of two lane roads to pedal our bikes on, etc. I have always cherished my childhood. We did not have much in material possessions but I still consider myself blessed to have been reared in the South.
Give thanks to the Lord for that, my parents, and all that went with it.

Good stuff. :):):)

I've had a taste or two of the Deep South. It's a special place to me. Great memories.

I got Baptized in an indoor tank in Atlanta when I was 11.

We may have some block head politicians up here but that doesn't make us ALL scumbags ;)

Beautiful frogs!!! Aka ouaouarons locally
Steve W

That was about 3 weeks ago on the opening hours of frog season here in South Louisiana. Those were a total of around 95ish frogs, LMAO.

Frog Legs, Hell yeah its whats for dinner!!!!!!!!

PS: I dunno about how you guys in other states do it. But i will say that "most" people go for just the frog legs. But down here the rednecks (pun intended and fingers pointed at me) have discovered that the meat on the back is just as good.

More Southern memories...........

.....Redlevel Great thread and photos! Enjoyed all the other images also.

There just can't enough good be said about the South. I was born there and I'll always be Southern no matter where I am.

What came to be called"soul food" in the '60's is nothing but the East Tennessee and North Georgia country cooking I was raised on. The real thing is cooked with soul, love, and a highly developed sense of hospitality, no matter the pigmentation, religion or national origin of the cook. It's being explored and appreciated more all over the country, but for most chefs it's a second language unless they grew up on it. And it's still pretty damn good even then.
