The .44 Special

Sorry, but it'll never happen. Geometry is against you. The J and K cylinders just aren't large enough to squeeze in .44 chambers. Consider the L-frames, whose cylinder diameter is just barely large enough to permit five .44 rounds. That's as small a wheel as you can use.

I had a CA Bulldog.44 that was close to J-frame size, IIRC (but it shot awfully). That was the idea- I'd like to see that sort of gun made by S&W.

When i spotted my LGS still having the last new S&W M24 N frame in 44 special w/ 6 1/2" barrel in nickel. I lost all control. I put it on the wrong credit card too. But i got the last one.

Give me a new 4 inch (or maybe 3 1/2 inch) 1950 Military .44 Spl. to toss in my night stand. Make it with the a big tritium dot front sight, like the NightGuards, mated with a large U notch in the frame.

I am for a 44 special N frame. Dont bother if is not true blue, steel and 4" ! I don't buy spray paint or aluminium or Hilary Holes

The 44 Special

Is this the type of gun we wish Smith would make ?
I got it partially done here on the forum from another member.
my local gunsmith finished it up for me and as far as I can tell did a great job.
I picked it up on way home from work so I have not shot it yet.
But , it sure seems like a winner.
It is a 686 no dash frame , with a five inch barrel that has been bored to 44 caliber.
The cylinder is a 696, and appears to have been NOS, as it does not seem to have been used.
So, I will shoot it in the next day or two and will report how it shoots.
