The Best .22 Ever Made

The OP sure knows how to stir up a hornets nest 😀

I have a Bergara BMR-X Carbon that will probably shoot moa groups at 3 times the range of that old Nylon 66 & gives up nothing in the weight category.

Heck even my CZ 22 WMR will out shoot that that thing at any usable range.

So is the Nylon 66 a classic and maybe even collectable....sure. Is it best at everything and most anything you would ask a 22 to do - NO not by a long shot.

I always lusted for a Nylon 66, but had to make do with a Remington 514, a single-shot bolt action gun (circa 1950) which was very accurate, and now resides with my grandson. I replaced it with a Tactical Solutions rifle (based on the Ruger 10-22) and it is pretty amazing. As for handguns, a 1954 vintage 'K-22 Masterpiece' that is a tack driver; consistently outshoots my Ruger 22/45, but not by much. Ain't 22s fun?

The best ever .22 ???? The one in you hand that you know so well that when you want, need a quick sure shot it delivers every time no questions asked. Single shot, bolt action or semi-auto it doesn't matter as long as it performs when you need it. I have some of all mentioned and truth be they all deliver when I ask them to. That to me is the best .22 on or off the market.

My father gave me a 66 back when the price was $49, if I recall correctly as it has been over 60 years ago. Hunted with it many years. Only problem was mine did not like any kind of hollow points. Still have it, but it has a bit of rust blemishes here and there. Good gun, yes, the best, not my sample. Not dependable with HP and the trigger left a lot to be desired. Would I give it up? not a chance!

I had a nylon 66 Back in the late 60’s. Pretty sure it was ordered out of a catalog and delivered by the mailman. I lived on a small farm and knew all the neighbors, who let me hunt, whatever. I carried and shot that rifle at least twice a week in my early teens. Shot great. I would shoot bottle caps off a fence post at 30 yards pretty easily off a solid rest. I would have preferred a buckhorn style sight but the squared off post worked. It ante all ammo with no issues.

This one right here:

(Bonus points for shooting .22 magnum along with .22 short, long, long rifle, colibri and super colibri.)

The first 22 I owned came from a Western Auto Supply Store in Jonesboro, Ga., It's a Revelation Mod A, 1964. I went there with my dad when I turned 14 and bought one. I can't remember how much I paid but that single shot bolt action still works today and it a tack driver with that scope. Over the years I acquired a Winchester Mod 61 from my wife's uncle when he passed away, serial number states it's a 1948 DOB. It shoots shorts, long, or long rifles. Brings back memories of arcades as a kid. Mine even has the Weaver G4 scope.

I am a bolt action 22lr guy . My wife and I do have a couple ruger 10/22 BUT original parts or limited to the reciever and bolt .

My first 22lr rifle was a rem 511P and still use it mainly for short range critter control with 22 short cb and never had a problem with these light 29gr slow bullets leaving the long 25" barrel with the firing pin "click " when fireing a cartridge being louder than the puff sound from the barrel . It is purdy accurate with 22lr match ammo but not as accurate as our ruger customs or my savage mkii bv .
I had a Gallery 22 Short 66 What a nice rifle.

Well, that sure is a broad category...
Semi-auto pistol: I love my 1972 Model 41. Revolvers: I love my 1932 Outdoorsman. Long gun: I love my 1915 Lee Enfield SMLE trainer - it out shoots many of my contemporary .22 rifles.

I bought one when they came out, in 1959. My grown daughter has it now. It has never to load, fire, and eject everything fed into it! But, best? There are too many to pick one!

I don’t know if it’s the best. I’ve owned and shot a lot of nice ones. My dads Winchester 77 semi auto comes to mine. But today I was shooting my 10/22 with new TechSights I just installed. I love it. I’m a big fan of ghost ring sights. At 50 yds it’s minute of squirrel head.

1st and 2d gen Colt Woodsman. Best ever, bar none. Especially the first gen Bullseye Target model.

Circa 1964, Dad and I were walking past the Goodyear store when we stopped and looked at a Nylon 66 in the display window. It was priced at $29.99, maybe $39.99, can't remember for sure. I wanted it so bad I could taste it. Dad said, "Nope. That plastic stock will warp." $29.99 sounds really, really cheap now. But in today's dollars that's over $300.
For $300 in 1964, you could have bought five acres in Central Florida.

Today I took to the woods with my Remington Nylon 66: the very finest .22 semi-automatic ever made:

For an autoloading rimfire, the Nylon 66 combines phenomenal reliability with high durability. It’s practical field accuracy is excellent, and it carries like a dream, weighing only 4 lbs.

Remington were fools for ever discontinuing this fine rifle. But due to their ruggedness, many still serve today and work as well as they ever did. I’m the proud owner of four of these fine guns.

I have a Nylon 66 and Nylon 12, both work and shoot accurately. I also have a brand new 75th Anniversary Ruger 10/22 and a Mark XXII Weatherby. My father-in-law gave me a 1949 Marlin 39A, which is perfect, unmarred, and also very accurate.

Best ,22 cal. rifle Model 39 Marlin lever action. Best .22 cal. handgun S&W model 41.
