The best production double action revolver?

I'll put S&W alone at the top for current production best DA revolvers - MIM parts, IL, two piece barrel and all!

Whole heartily agree. The current MIM S&W revolvers slick up beautifully with less than 5 minutes of work, then toss in a spring change/re-contour and well its awesome. If air had 6-6.5lbs of resistance that's my trigger, not the lightest achievable but man it never gets old pulling it. I personally can't get the forged part guns close in terms of smoothness.

SA, Freedom Arms

DA, Python

Would have to disagree on the Python, except maybe for some very early examples. (I currently have two, but one is likely trading fodder. The other is useful as it has night sights and the bugs have long since been worked out, including making a beryllium copper firing pin...) The internals on anything from the 1970s up are hit or miss, and they're nightmarish to tune. The best Colt DAs I've run across are the pre-WWII Shooting Masters.

Pythons and 27s are all about polish and embellishment. There never was an expectation that a Python would be any more accurate than an Officer's Model or Trooper. Similarly countless members have posted that their 28 shoots just as well as a 27. Freedom Arms revolvers aren't purchased for their polish or ornamentation. They don't even have the wide hammer spur of a Super Blackhawk. The Freedom Arms revolvers are all about long range accuracy.
