Very nice collection of 44's, I like!

I grew up reading Elmer Keith and as a result have owned a lot of Smith & Wesson 44's over the years, I currently own several but you've got me beat by a mile. I am not a serious collector and care little about boxes and paperwork, more of an accumulator and shooter.

Which one is your favorite? For me it's the 629 Mountain Gun, or more specifically my 629-2 Mountain Revolver.

Saint Elmer would definitely approve of your collection.

Thanks WP, I was also highly influenced by EK, and all the other great gun writer's of our youth.
Sadly I don't enjoy most of the new breed, like I did the old ones. Except for Brian Pearse, he's on the ball and speaks the truth. The regular 4" version happens to be my favorite, although in resent years its been replaced by the 329 for every day belt gun duty.
Thanks again, and happy hunting!

That`s a great collection and while I thank you for sharing it , I wonder is it wise to show your treasures to the world?

I'm not sure how wise it is. I know I really enjoy looking at other members photos. Has a matter of fact in the 1896-1961 forum right now, there's a two page thread going with a wheel style photo that is quite impressive (to say the least).
Thank you

Don't forget John Taffin, who is among the last of the gun writers worth reading.

Now that you've asked, I'm not sure about the answer. But it probably revolves around trying to simplify things at my loading bench. Every time one of the big bore target guns was sold one or more 44, showed up(I guess).
Anyway, the black pc gun has grown on me and now, I wouldn't mind a green one at all.
What model and dash number is that?

It's a 629-6 with all of the usual disliked features. "NATO" colored or some such by Birdsong for the PC. Oddly enough, it doesn't seem to suffer in comparison to any of my "high quality" P&R revolvers! In fact it outshoots all of the old ones and has a great action, both SA and DA. Picked it up used some years back, but the big EOTech was recently installed for foul weather hunting.

ETA: It even shoots cast boolits well, so that's what was carried in this seaon's futile attempt at finding some vension. (Bullets coated with the red copper HITEK supersecret lube substitute as noted in a post or two last summer.) Deer were scarce this year. No one on our property nor any of the neighboring hunters we know had any success.

In all seriousness, that is one beautiful collection. Do you ever take it out to gun shows?

I remember the days when gun shows were fun. Guys brought their collections, swapped and haggled, and it was all laid back fun. Oh, and you could actually examine a gun because it didn't have to be tied shut.

Now it's like watching schools of pihrana descend on whoever has the ammo, the assault rifles, or the distributor with all of the new handguns. Boring!

No I don't, but I do miss the old gun shows.
And the old gun shops, the friendly ones. It didn't matter if you where buying, selling or just swapping tall tales. They where fun to visit, those places are all gone now.
I miss them.

Man I don't know if I am worthy. That is a nice collection of 44's. You have set the bar high for some of us here.

CWH- l see you have a 629-7 TU-TONE PC Hunter...And a 629-6 PC Hunter beside it.. Which do you prefer and why??

Santa brought me a 629-7 tu-tone..lt shoots great, but was thinking about the 629-6 PC also..lt has the COOLEST looking barrel with its one piece design and ports

Thanks for helping me feel better about my recent purchases. I have been stocking up on 357's but I must own at least one 44. I have it narrowed down to the 629 pc snub, regular 4", stealth hunter or the 329. I know you like the 4. If you could only have one what would it be?

I'm liking the pc dash 6, its got the slickest action of all my 44's
I plan on scoping it up and using it for deer hunting
The two tone gun is a real looker, but I haven't spent much time with it. How does your shoot?

Glad I could help out...lol
All the guns you listed are great, but you need to pick the model that works for you. If I had to pick one, it would be an old dash 1, 4" gun. This one has been there and done that. I recently had it rebuilt and refinished down in Springfield, and it shoots and looks like new

Thanks for the therapy. That is one nice gun.

CWH--The -7 PC tu tone is ok..l took 4 dif 29s to the range a couple weeks ago for comparison shooting. The tu tone Hunter placed third of the 4. My 629 Pwr Port and 629DX both did better than the tu tone. l posted a thread about the result.. l used 4 dif loads for the comparison.

Main attraction was the red/dot and gun ''pkg''..This has been my first ever experience w red/dot.. l must say l do like the concept... Will most likely upgrade the site in the future..

l do like the way the -7 points and feels in my hand..l think the 7 1/2'' barrel is ideal..The single/double action feel of it seems no better than any of my other 3 Smith 44s. As of this moment l am on the ''hunt'' for a 629-6 PC Hunter...

CWH--Took your advice.. GB # 388422289.. Smith Wesson 629-6 PC Hunter 170181.. lts MINE...Tho used l saved a couple Buxx...Guess l put the extra cash in ammo or an ULTRADOT red/dot..

Didn't you have a "day at the range" post where you compared shooting 4 of your guns? I was looking for that comparison and it seems to be removed. What was the gun that surprised you in a good way?
