No doubt this thread will be dominated by .357 enthusiasts. While the cartridge is not worthless, I have it on good authority that it is inadequate for defense against Sasquatch. for pleasant recoil .44 Mag can be hand loaded with 180 grain bullets at 700 fps. That's light enough. .44 Mag is indisputably a more all around cartridge than .357 Mag. Since Sasquatch rarely wonder into downtown we do not need a concealable revolver but an L frame .44 Mag ads that flexibility. There is only one S&W model, the 69.

No doubt there will be more .357 fans; it's been around longer, and most magnum owners have felt it sufficed for any situation, until Elmer Keith convinced everybody the caliber designation had to have a "4" in it somewhere, preferably up in front next to the decimal. Just to be safe, he suggested two 4's next to each other. That's okay, I'm down with that. Even if you don't hit the target, it will get knocked down by the noise and maybe even scared to death. Even one "4" is good enough, when it's next to the decimal.

I'm a firm believer in equal opportunity and preparedness for the situation with which you are confronted; in that vein, I am more than willing to include the "big boys" in with the "mighty mites". That way, I always have a buffet of whoop-butt available for most any circumstance.

I'm with the old cop! A 4" 66 was my first revolver way back when, and I still have it. (just can't find a picture on this blasted phone, will update tomorrow)

Keeping my 2.5"er too, both are -1's. But there are SO many awesome model's to choose from, I can only list my favorite all around revolver.

Say, where are all the pictures?

EDIT: I did find one picture on this phone after all. It's from 2 years ago, but it looks the same. She's an "old cop gun" too. Bought it for $199 bucks as a police trade in, maybe in the late 80's.

The 686 gets my vote. Probably the best 357 ever. Not too big and not too small, just right.

My two favorites are Model 28 and 66, both in 4" barrels. The Model 28 because I can shoot are .357 Magnum ammunition without fear, and the Model 66 I carried in my first Police Academy

To my mind the 4" 27/28 seems like the quintessential Smith revolver.
