My first car I drove in High School was a 1968 Chrysler Newport, called it Mopar power. It was big enough for the whole gang to party in.
After I graduated I sold it and got a 1975 Toyota Corolla SR5. It had a hardtop, fastback style and had nearly a 50-50 front to back weight ratio. I rebuilt it for racing around on country backroads. It had full ground effects, fender flares, custom tubular grill, a modified and lowered suspension, 5 speed manual transmission, 4.30 rear, alloy rims and low profile tires. It was painted a dark metallic Imron grey and had blacked out trim. Inside it had black denim seat covers, 4 point racing harnesses, a Pioneer Logic control AM/FM Multiplex stereo cassette player with a 7 band power booster equalizer playing through Jensen Triaxl speakers.
The engine was mostly stock with a 390 cfm Holley, no heat riser, an open element aircleaner and open hood scoop. I also removed the smog pump and the a/c. I worked at a Toyota dealership at the time and could get parts at cost and get mechanics to work on it for beer. Muffler? nope, just a straight pipe connected to a header and exiting in front of the rear well. I had a lot of fun with that car and I wish I still had it. Future plans was for a high performance double overhead cam, dual sidedraft engine and racing it at Sears Point. I'd get what I called a 6 pack inspection, give the inspecter a 6 pack and he'd give me a sticker.
My third car was my everyday driver. A 1981 Toyota Corolla 2 door sedan. I drove it when the weather wasn't nice enough for my SR5. Unfortunately reality set in and I had to sell them both after I totalled the '81 the second time trying to drive it like my SR5 and had to get a nice practical car for running around to classes and work.
I found a pic online, This is how it started out. By the time I was done with it, it was very much different.
