I have always flown the American flag at my property, always replace it when it becomes tattered. Have a real nice lighted 20’ pole for it.
I also like to fly historical flags as well, over the 4th of July it was of course the Betsy Ross flag, taking it down due to stormy weather this morning I hoisted the Star Bangled Banner flag.
Now since my standard was tattered I had to go see the Flag Lady, she and her husband run a local shop selling flags and poles. They even install the poles.
Well I picked up my new flag but ordered a new historical flag for flying and as soon as it comes it it will get hoisted for the rest of the month in honor of the Battle of Gettysburg. I guess that would be good reason?
Nobody probably will understand what it is anyway! :cool:

I have 3 flags in my yard and two at the start of the driveway

In the yard:
The one in the center that’s flys higher than the other two is the American Flag
The one on the right is the POW flag
The one on the left is the Pokagon Band of the Potawatomi

At the entrance of the driveway on the two gate pole are the America Flag on each pole.

I think most people will recognize that as a Confederate flag.

That appears to be a variant of the first flag adopted by the confederacy known as "The Stars and Bars". The original had seven stars representing the first seven states to secede.

The earlier version that I fly only has SEVEN stars.

We just received our 25' fiberglass flagpole 2 weeks ago; still waiting on the hardware that was supposed to ship via UPS. Cannot recommend Flagpoles etc at this point. Anxious to fly American flag AND don't tread on me flag when I finally get it installed.

To be honest, I didn't know. I thought it was, as said above, a variation of the Betsy Ross flag.

I was born and raised in the SW USA - it's not my heritage and I didn't learn about it. It's not meant to be a put down or a slight to anyone - just the way it is.

It'd be the same if I showed you all some Spanish Colonial flags - some probably would say, "it's interesting, but, not my heritage." I wouldn't take that as anything insulting, just the way it is!

That's why it's great to be American, we can all be proud of and educate others on our different heritage.
 
Not meant to insult anyone. If you were taught and studied the Civil War you should maybe know the one I just purchased above.
Most people will only recognize this battle flag... which is deemed to be so offensive today.

I know you're not insulting anyone.

My awkward wording, was awkward. I was trying to say not to take my ignorance as an insult while trying to explain my POV and that I learned something.

AKA the Gadsden Flag.

Standing on my front porch, facing the road, on the far right is the American flag. Next is the Marine Corps flag. To the far left is either the Third flag of the Confederacy or the Confederate battle flag. Next is the Virginia state flag. During football season, I fly an Auburn flag and a LSU flag.

When I was in Afghanistan, I had an American flag on the wall, above my bed. Above my head, was Robert E Lee's HQ flag, a 1st National with the stars arranged in the "Bread of Life" pattern. No one ever asked me what that flag was; my answer was going to be, "That's an old Virginian's flag." :)

Stars and Bars with 13 stars was the second version as the first had 7 stars.
The three most recognized flags of our Nation.
The flag of Texas is of course the third.... making one for the my X frame shortly.... and the Betsy Ross with the anchor....for offshore.... gyro stabilized of course. :rolleyes: :D

Be careful. If you fly those flags, some intolerant people may try to destroy them or harm your family. This is not a joke.

I dare not say more because of the Rules here, but look at what's happening to CSA statues across the South.

Be safe.

BTW, has anyone else noticed how closely the flag of Chile resembles the Texas flag?

I have great fun (naturalized but originally from the UK) flying what is the first US flag, the Grand Union. It looks to the uninformed, of which there are many (and I live only a few miles from Valley Forge), as an UK flag as it has the pre-Scottish English canton (no blue cross) and 13 red and white bars. It first flew over the 1775 Continental Congress and is actually on display in the Chapel at VF, which is where I first saw it in 1970. The number of people who flunked US history is very significant judging by the comments that I have had over the last almost 50 years, and let us say that they are even more upset when their error is pointed out by an ex-Brit (since I still have not lost all of my London accent).
