Idly surfing through a few websites, checked "reloading supplies, primers" on one of the big name auction sites. The starting bids (asking prices) on primers were shocking ($100-plus per 1000). Then I noticed that there were actually bids being placed at and near that price range!

Carton of 5000 small pistol primers, 34 bids, currently at $470 plus shipping. Carton of 1000 large pistol primers, a dozen bids, currently at $92 plus shipping. Dozens of other offerings with active bidding going on.

I'm still sitting on about 3000 large rifle, 4000 large pistol, and 3000 small pistol. All were purchased prior to the current stupid-cycle, all under $30 per thousand. The large rifle primers were purchased back in my CMP service rifle days (1980s), I think they were about $8 per thousand.

I'm rich! I could probably swap my stash for a great new gun (but I wouldn't have anything to shoot in it).

Stocks? Bonds? Mutual funds? Real estate? If I had just taken the opportunity to transfer all of my retirement funds into ammunition components a few years ago, WOW! And I wouldn't have to gouge anyone, just let them bid their fortunes away!

My non-gouging LGS sold me CCI 500 SPP for $6.25/100. $30/lb powder is now $40. I assume that's the new normal, given how everything else is inflating too. Maybe in time it drifts down 10 or 15%, or maybe not.

Midway had primers recently that cost over $100 with shipping bad hazmat fees. Our gun club has had primers on order for over a year, still has not seen any.
This might be the new normal, i certainly hope not.
Maybe as loaded ammo starts to be more available, than more primers will show up and the prices will level off.
It will put a crimp, pun intended, in my shooting, for sure.

Extremely glad that I was able and had the foresight to stock up before this craziness started. Fell into a couple of deals where the prices dictated we would be stupid not to buy the reloading supplies. Thank god for small miracles!

CONTROL

Don't forget ammo control is the same as gun control.

HA! I was preaching this 40 + years ago and people said I was nuts. My quote was, they can never get all the guns but they can sure mess with the ammo. In those days, primers were selling for 25cents a deck. :( Oh yeah, Tylers were $3.50 each and were going begging.
