The made up 800 number? The 145 your link said, with no qualifications about what that true data that number is communicating. The number-that's-many-times-that that my link shows, where it actually breaks deaths down?

You believe that there are normally 150 per day and now there are 800. Yes?

The 800 number is out of whole cloth. There is no data point to support it.

In contrast, I understand where you find the 150 number.

I don't know what they're saying with that. The 150 number may mean in Manhattan alone, there are four other boroughs on NYC; it may mean people in public housing, it may mean anything.

I gave you an official link that shows far greater numbers than 150.

Regardless, the 800 number is false. There seems no way around that.

Using critical reasoning, it would seem that the flu is a bigger on going threat.

Of course we also have an intact mechanism to detect the flu in the Southern Hemisphere six months before it is flu season here, and an infrastructure that identifies the most likely strain and mass produces a vaccine for it also before flu season starts here. Even though some years the seasonal flu vaccine works better and some years not so well, it still manages to save a lot of lives every year.

The infrastructure for tracking, identifying and dealing with the seasonal flu does not exist for one that starts in Asia during our flu season because it was defunded in the 2018 CDC budget for over 30 foreign countries - including China. Since this particular virus is novel (new) it also isn't lending itself to quickly or easily creating a vaccine.

And, having seen the videos of Italian elected officials encouraging people to hug Chinese visitors, so as not to appear racist, yes I do believe there was a politically-driven agenda at work there. It just got more than it bargained for.

Just what makes you think it won't happen again. No, so far this isn't 1918 and some of that is due to the country shutting down a lot quicker than it did in 1918. Plus, we didn't have thousands of infected vetrans returning from a war on troop ships infected with the virus and then turned loose to spread it all over the county.

Your post, as I understand what happened in 1918 is completely wrong.
The Spanish flu seems to have originated with a recruit that was stationed in Kansas, I think.
I dont remember his name, but he was a cook and spread it to everyone. Plus side, he survived.
From there the military took over.
President Wilson didnt see a choice of not sending troops.
And there weren't many precautions taken then either.

The point being, our troops didnt bring it back here, it started and was spread by the troops here.

At least, that's my knowledge anyway.
