The Model 686+/686 For A Concealed Carry?

The OP should look at the M60-15 sku 178013. It's a 3-inch Pro Series J-frame with adjustable sights in .357. Some call it a "... mini Model 686."

I have a similar version and it seems way handier than my 3-inch M686-5, which to be honest, is kind of a boat anchor.

With over 50 years of concealed carry and work as an academy instructor, I am a dyed in the wool 1911 guy BUT, I love revolvers and I really love that Pro Series Model 60. If you're going to carry a revolver, that's the way to go.

Nice revolver indeed, but, if you plan on carrying a revolver for self-defense concealed, I think a light-weight, compact revolver having a six-shot capacity, like the Colt Cobra/Agent or the Smith & Wesson Model 12, is the way to go.

I have a great little 340PD Scandium that weighs in at less than 12 ounces(340 grams for you communist nations) with Crimson Trace green laser stocks (yes "stocks" not "grips) and a magnaported barrel. The extra weight of the model 60 doesn't bother me nor does carrying "only" 5 rounds. As a civilian CCW gun if I need more rounds I should be running, not fighting. Six round revolvers usually get left at home.

Not sure but I think most sd shootings are like 2 or 3 shots fired. This would probably not apply if one is a gang member or a drive by shooter which would require high capacity firearms.

Back in covered wagon days, when I was instructing LEOs, the average police gun battle was 2.8 round fired in less than 3 seconds. That is total rounds by all parties. You want more than 5 rounds and are willing to put up with the extra bulk and weight? Go for it. You will give up carrying the gun before you need it, which is hopefully NEVER!

You can look up plenty of situations online showing the need of more than 5 rounds. Plus the added risk daily going up of a terrorist attack here...

I'm not saying strap on a 17rd pistol with a backup 30rd magazine. But I definitely would no longer feel safe with a J frame 38 special as my primary carry piece. That is just me though.

I have to agree with several other post......If I am personally attacked, I am going to fight, shoot and defend myself and/or family to the death.
However, as a non-LEO, and no desire to be a hero, if I witness an armed robbery, regardless of what weaponry they have, I would be reluctant to take action unless maybe they just had a knife, axe, or sword and I had a clear shot and a life was in danger. If I was in a mall or movie theater and a shooter showed up with an "assault" style rifle, am I going to attempt to "take them out"? I don't think so, especially if I just have a handgun (any handgun) and they have a rifle, with possibly many extra mags......and bent on killing as many people as possible.
There are just a few reasons for my rational.....first, if I take cover, have my weapon out and police/security arrive, they don't know who I am and chances are, I'll be shot by a good guy. Second, I would have a clear disadvantage with a handgun vs assault style rifle or a shot gun.
Third and finally, CIVIL LIABILITIES.......I may not get killed, and hailed a hero, but someone is going to sue me......the bad guy, the bad guys family or the ACLU. Additionally, some innocent bystander that may have been dramatized is going to sue, even though I was the "hero".
So, in closing, I sometimes CCW a Glock 32 (.357 Sig) with 2 extra magazines (26 extra rounds) or a J frame with no extra ammo....No rhyme or reason to the CCW rotation, but I do believe in the 3-3-3 rule. 3 shots in 3 seconds at 3 feet.
I try not to visit places where there is a chance that I will be attacked by a gang and if I do, than the Glock and 2 extra magazines are in order.

The world isn't what it used to be. Today you have groups of people killing strangers for no reason. Here is a great example of why you should have a firearm that holds more than 5 rounds.

I don't plan to get much more in depth than this because it doesn't need to turn into what is right or what is wrong capacity wise. I just hope everyone here stays safe and their family and IF and WHEN you need your firearm, you are properly equipped.

P.S. Lets all carry magnums (or at least 44spc) :)

With the first shot those crowds of vermin scatter like cockroaches when the lights turn on. They are cowards. In fact they will probably trampled and injure each other attempting to runaway. If you empty a high cap magazine into the backs of fleeing teens (which is how it will be portrayed) the city's DA will make it their mission in life to see that you never walk the streets again as a free man.

It was recently said that it is statistically more likely to be struck by lightning than to be a victim of one of these situations. I still believe that MOST people who try to carry a large, heavy gun will soon be leaving it home because of the discomfort. Remember the first rule of a gun fight. "HAVE A GUN!"

Platitudes and maxims aside, you should carry what you want as long as you are both competent and comfortable with it. The rest is noise, imho.

You'll never know what you may be up against until you are up against it. Hopefully, that day will never come. If it does, hopefully you'll be prepared to meet it head on.

Agreed 100% Well said.

So interesting, that today, the ultra-liberal, (aka, socialistic followers), have integrated in this society so well, and made, 'P.C.' So Correct.
That many people are MORE Afraid of, 'being sued', than of a firearm.

Time to Put Down the Pizza, turn OFF, the TV re-runs, and Get Involved.
Take this Country BACK, from the, 'Fairy Dust Sprinklers'
.

That many people are MORE Afraid of, 'being sued', than of a firearm.

Scarier yet, to my mind, is that they appear to be more afraid of being sued than not surviving the life threatening encounter that entitles them to use a firearm to defend themselves in the first place.

(I'll leave off the political analysis as to the cause of this unfortunate state of affairs.)

A six round Colt Cobra/Agent revolver weighs the same as a five round S&W Airweight and has a cylinder only 1/10" wider (1.400 vs 1.309). Of course, you have to look for one in the used gun market. I think they're worth the search.

The operative word is "usually." There are always exceptions.
