The most beautiful of all, the queen of your dreams

Among the old guard female stars of the 40s-50s it would be difficult to beat Lana Turner. One of my favorite movies is "The Bad and the Beautiful." In it, she was both. Later, her young daughter killed Lana's mobster lover. Quite a scandal at the time. It also sort of killed her acting career.

Ah, Miss Spread Spectrum. Clever lady.

So what is it about a good looking woman with black gloves and choker? ;)

She and a collaborator came up with a method of radio signaling and control involving constantly shifting radio frequencies to foil jamming. She had been married to an Austrian munitions manufacturer and was apparently knowledgeable about weapons.

Bailey seemed attainable.

Jan Smithers was the ideal girl next door.

I find it telling that most guys seem to prefer the "plain" Mary Ann and Bailey over the "gorgeous" Ginger and Jennifer.

Add Veronica Hamel, and Sherry Jackson.

So, what does it tell?

"Plain" and "gorgeous" have different meanings to different people. But there is more to it. You also have to add "friendly" and "stuck-up" to the discussion.

Queen Elizabeth

Hard to argue with any of the above, but for me, young Elizabeth Taylor was the most beautiful actress of modern time.

From the starlets of the Golden Age of Hollywood, I still find Joan Bennet one of the most stunning. But as fiasconva mentioned, the sight of Barbara Eden running around in her harem costume and saying "yes master" all the time sure did it to me when I was a 12 year old boy. And we didn't even have a color TV.
Here is Ms. Bennett.

I did not look through this whole thread, but I rarely see her included in one of these-
Lee Remick
At around 12 or 13, I was sure I was in love. Those eyes.....

She did not photograph well for stills, I think because she was probably very self conscious. That's my take, anyway. She could definitely hold up her role in a movie. Dead too soon in her mid 50s.
