The Most Famous Person You've Met

Eliminating all celebrities & politicians (most of whom I would not cross the street to **** on if they were on fire - not that I ever met any :D) I did meet Linus Pauling after a lecture while in college. Never forgot that. Very impressive/persuasive speaker - never did quite buy into his Vitamin C thing in later years, but as a young Chem major, i was impressed.

I've met Jimmy Dean a few times; he has a house in eastern part of Richmond that overlooks the James River. Pretty down to earth guy.

THANKS! For such a cool thread - I've read most of them and they got me thinking of the *stars* and *celebrities* I've met over the years.
My then wife and I worked at Pipe Dreams on Hollywood Blvd back in the early 70's. It was 1 of only 2 head shops in LA at the time. The other was on Sunset and was owned by the same *little old lady*. So we met a lot of the *stars* of the time and maybe even some of you :)

I've met a bunch of celebrities over the years and tried listing them here and then thought - Who Cares?
I didn't really Know but a few anyway.

But ONE stands out in my mind - You've probably never heard of him - But maybe you have:

Emil Uremovich (Detroit Lions - Sheriff's Hall of Fame) was my uncle. They called him Moose. Uncle Emil was THE BEST of the best :)
Thinking back - I idolized some pro hockey players growing up (Go Hawks!) but Uncle Emil was truly my hero :D
I still miss him...........

OTOH - I once rode in an elevator with Carly Simon and she smiled at me :o -- I really wanted to say something (anything) but neither my mouth or brain would work - What a knock-out! Then the door opened, and when it closed I was alone again - Naturally
She wore patchouli ;)

I read through all 31 pages, and I am very disappointed that no one mentioned ME! :(

J/K...

I've seen a few celebrities or politicians in the airport during my career, which involved a lot of travel to NY and LA. The most memorable for me was Hulk Hogan. All the other celebrities pretty much kept to themselves, and didn't want to be approached, but Hulk and the guy traveling with him (who was even bigger than he was, if you can imagine that) put on a mock fight once the plane was airborne. Then he went down the aisle shaking hands with everyone. Seemed like a nice guy.

Back when Garth Brooks was getting started, he came to do a concert in the small west Texas town where my wife and I grew up. We were back home for the weekend, and one of her brothers was working as crew for him, and got us passes. I decided to stay home to babysit, and my wife went. After the show, her brother introduced my wife to Garth, and he took the time to really talk to her for a few minutes, and then hugged her when he left. She said he seemed like one of the most genuinely nice people she had ever met.

When I was 28, in a little bar in Troy Oregon, I jammed for about 5 hours with John Fogerty. He on guitar, me on drums, some other guy on guitar, and a packed house of about 150 drunk people. For 2 years after that, complete strangers would come into the bar and ask me "Aren't you John Fogerty's drummer?"

Billy Jeff Clinton when he was governor of Arkansas. He visited my Bn., when we were at Ft. Chaffe.

Ricky Nelson. We open opened for him and his group the Stone Canyon Band in Bristol Tennessee a loooong time ago. We were fired after the first night of the tour because we got the crowd too fired up. :D

He was a real nice, down to earth guy.

My favorite...Neil Armstrong...most recent Rep. Charlie Wilson, what a guy!

Years ago I was in the Phoenix airport using a urinal next to the urinal that was being used by Art Linkletter.

I did not try to shake his hand. :D

A J Foyt, Mario Andretti, Eddie Sax and a bunch more that the names only a hardcore open wheel racing fan would know, all thru my Dad who raced Midgets on the same track as they. Way back before the rear engined Indy cars.
My Dad raced at the Langhorne Speedway back when it was a dirt track, among others in the area. We always got into the pits on race day.

Roy Jinks at the NRA convention. He's the only person I know who people will send money just to get him to write back.

His sons were on Coast To Coast a few months ago. They said that the rumors of the band freebasing on the plane which caused a fire were just bad rumors. The investigation found that the plane they were on had a fuel leak which collected in the compartment below the cockpit and went undetected. It ignited and caused the crash. Sad way to lose a very good performer.

George W Bush...shook hands and had our picture taken together....I guess that is the most famous person I have met

The person I am proudest to have spent time with was MOH winner Gen Ray Davis.....

Evel Kniviel, he had a art showing I went to in the 80's. Lousy artist, pleasent guy.

I framed James Best's house. He even put his boat in the lake for us to use whenever we wanted. I had an invitation to his house warming party which included Burt and Loni, Jerry Reid and Dom Delouise until the GC Bailed on the job. Then all of us got uninvited :(

When I was first introduced to him he said "You can call me Jim, but don't call me Roscoe."

When I was liveing back in lancaster calif, I took my dog to the vet. My dog was old, sick and not too good looking. A older woman was sitting there and said, oh, what a pretty dog! I said something like naw, shes ugly, but I like her. The old gal shot me down with: All animals are beautifull, just some humans are ugly! (I knew she meant me, as I could tell she didnt get my humor. I later was told she was tippy hedron. She runs some kind of animal thing near lancaster.
Another time back in the 60s when I was a guard for lockheed at burbank california, I was maning a gate and a T-brid pulled up and where the front license is suppose to be, it had a plate that said, "Man from uncle". I looked and sure nuff it was david mc cellum with a chick. I guess he thought I must have been a parking lot attendant as he wanted to pay me! I had a time explaining to him that he wasnt at burbank terminal, but at lockheed aircraft next door. He was a egotistical little , I almost had to talk to him by hand!
Prior to that I had worked at universal movie studios also in security and of course met many stars and knew a few at least casualy. They are just people. Some were down to earth but a lot did let it go to their heads.
