I don't think most of the "JM purist" will complain if Ruger makes them like they do the other guns they make. The Remlin's were not quality at all. Even the last couple of years when they were better they were sending out new guns with problems that should have been notice and fixed before they went to the dealers. I don't believe Ruger will do that. Being a member of Marlinowners I can tell you that most if not all over there are excited about the new ones being released.

Good deal, Ruger/Marlin certainly has a grand opportunity if they'll deliver the quality we know they can.

I didn't get all caught up in the Remlin issue, but I have a JM marked 1977 336C and a 2018 Remlin 336Y and they're both fit as a fiddle, no complaints about the Remlin at all.

I suspect Ruger has a .357 version in the works, I'm wanting to eventually snag one of them.

I want a 1894 model with a 16 inch barrel in 45 Colt and no darn cross bolt safety, just a half notch. I have an 1981 Marlin 357 and a 1979 model 375, both dead accurate

Putting a can on a lever action rifle, to me, ruins the balance and aesthetics. Lever actions are classic firearms like S&W revolvers. The make a myriad of plastic and alloy guns for cans. I just don't see the need. Maybe to appeal to a different generation.?
I guess I'm getting to old.

Not really... when you're out in cold weather wearing gloves. A stainless 45-70 like the 1895 SBL is likely to see real use in the cold climate states, especially Alaska, so it makes perfect sense.

At least the Marlin one is not as over done as others out there that do border on the ridiculous. It's better than the Henry large loop.

I have a Ranger Point precision "medium" loop on my 444S, all I can say is don't knock it until you try it.

Some of us might disagree with that statement in a big way. My H&K Mk 23 with it's Silencerco Osprey on it is way quieter than any manually operated gun would be. And a Ruger 10/22 rifle, the only thing that you hear is the empty case getting shucked out.

I'm glad to see they are out now, and out of Remington's hands. I feel Ruger will do the Marlin name proud. However, at a $1,400 MSRP, I'll never know first hand.

I would like to have one in 45 colt, but I own enough other caliber Marlins to get by. And I have a beautiful Henry in 45 and a 41 mag that were half that $1,400 price point.

I'm not buying $1,500 S&W revolvers either. Nope, not me. Might sell some guns at these inflated prices, but I'm not contributing to the madness by spending $$$.

Yeah, kraynky, I'm on the buying sidelines mostly my own self these days. Not much that I need, not much that I want.

But I DO like the threaded barrel on that rifle - I have a Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70 that shoots great and, well, if it was suppressed, well, that would be wonderful!

As for suppressed rifles, I've never seen a more silent gun than a 10-22 with a built in suppressor. The three sounds you could hear were the bullet striking a steel target, the action, and the brass hitting the cement grounds of the range we were at. I can't imagine a quieter rifle but I'll talk to my FFL about threading the barrel of mine - sounds like a fun project and then that would give me something I would need and want - a .45-70 suppressor!

I'm not a fan of large loop levers but with gloves they make a lot of sense and if you wrap them in leather that makes sense, too.

Yes, but take a look at what used ones (JM & Rem) have been selling for on GB; $2K plus. Makes the proposed MSRP look pretty good.

I'm rather fond of the large loop I put on mine. I suppose it's a matter of personal preference.

I like Marlins, regardless of who makes them. So long as the quality is there. I like my Rugers too - No1s, Model 96 and half dozen Minis along with about 15 of their handguns. Have to be honest though. When buying Rugers lately I've gone from a quick look and "wrap her up" to giving them a good going over. A tad too much economizing on the aesthetics too.

The 45/70 shown does look very promising.

Steel and wood heirloom-quality guns cost more than $1000 now. It's just reality. IIRC the MSRP on the Remlin 1895SBL was nearly $900 when it was introduced over a decade ago, the stainless gun with the XS rail. I had the more humble blued version before moving up, then ditched them both for a much more handy (but yes, less iconic) Ruger American in .450BM.

I always wear a glove with lever guns.
Racketball with the 9422 and a BMX bicycle glove with the '94/44Mag or the '92/45Colt.
The BMX has a bit of padding on the fingers.

I agree, but it's easily removed with a safety delete kit.
