Eric claimed that he had such acute hearing that he could tell if vacuum tubes were Chinese or Russian and when a 9 volt battery, in one of his stomp boxes, dropped below 7 volts. He was meticulous about the tonal quality of the gear of his session players. (Always seemed to be a lot of eggshells in the studio.
