As I'm sure you know, the NRA is strongly against the treaty. Their analysis can be found here:

NRA-ILA | Disinformation Continues as U.N. Arms Treaty Takes Shape

Also, belief is now strong that Obama will not allow the signed treaty to come to a Senate vote, and that in the meanwhile he will comply with the treaty on the excuse that it would be in contravention of the treaty's intent and purpose to do otherwise. He knows he doesn't have the votes in the Senate, yet he will plunge ahead anyway! If this doesn't get your goat, nothing will.

I have not read any of the drafts, but this 'treaty' is no different than any other gun-control attempt - the legal-minded will adhere, the miscreants will ignore. But I bet with this treaty we see all the miscreant countries signing the agreement and then ignoring it anyway. Does anyone think Iran or Syria won't sign? Does anyone think they will actually abide by it? How will they get their AK's to keep the citizens in line? The US might sign it, but it won't hold any water internally.

Again I have not read any of the drafts, but from the posted commentary it appears that no matter who signs or doesn't sign or what our gun grabbers say or do, this treaty may impact us with restrictions, and certainly add to every country's - including ours - bureaucracy with the paperwork alone. I see there is going to be some sort of traceability requirement - if Spain signs and we ignore, will Bergara barrels still be available to the US market? Or will there be some silly little government tag the consumer will have to fill in when he purchases that barrel, that will be returned to the manufacturer, so that we are all "registered"? How will that manufacturer be assured that particular barrel went to me? And as in the NRA-ILA example, will Italy not ship Barettas to the US (perhaps their biggest customer?) because of this? Or will we agree to fill in the little traceability tag so we can own the Baretta?

Maybe we will have to make and only buy and sell our own guns?

My take is the countries who sign this will ignore it, or find some loophole (except for true nanny-states like Japan). It will be like a lot of other UN 'policies' and say great magnanimous and humanitarian things, but hold no real value. It will be just another blunt arrow in the MSM liberal quivver to be taken out and shot when any 2A discussions come up.

But wow do I object to this thing, and I am embarrassed by those in my country who think and say this is a good thing.
