The one that got away

I've managed to keep most of the limited assortment of Smith and Wesson's I've owned over the years. What I do regret is the one or two I did not buy, Model 10's at $85.00, Highway patrolman $125.00, M 27 -2's at $140.00, these were factory suggested retail in the early 70's.

Ouch!

The one I continue to seek a replacement for, my 686 CS-1.

:(

I feel your pain on letting that one get away! Certainly worth the ongoing search for its' twin.

The one I regret selling the most was my birth year Highway Patrolman. It had SN matched diamond magnas and everything. My @$$ should be kicked!

Right on the brink!

I let a .22A get away when I first started buying handguns. Not the worst thing I did, but I came oh so close to selling my 3913 Lady Smith to get a new M&P. Almost like selling one of my kids to get another one. At the last moment my senses returned and I decided to wait until I could get the M&P another way. Whew! There is just something about S&W handguns that make us do crazy things to get them.

The first Smith I owned was a 19 with a 4" barrel nickle plated. The grips were just the right color to make the gun really pretty. After I heard that you shouldn't be shooting a steady diet of 357 mag out of it I stupidly got rid of it. I did replace it with a 27-2 that I still own. I also had a 29-2 with a six inch barrel and sold that to a friend. I've since replaced that with a 29-3. Damn now I have tears in my eyes!

6 inch Mod 586 with an undercut front sight. It joins a 6 inch Python I also let go.

M29-1 4 Inch Nickel

About a dozen 1950 Targets in 4 & 5 inch, kept a few.

The M29-1 4 Inch 5 screw Nickel that was supposed to not exsist (15 years ago). I was told on the old GUN SPOT Forum. Well, they do. I sold it 'cause I thought it was refinished. But I DID double money, sold it for $900.dan

A Model 49-2 in nickle.

Couldn't find another one like it at the right price so a new 638 made me feel better..:D

I bought a beautiful model 57 no dash complete with presentation case and all tools and docs, and I got it for a VERY good price. Everything looked brand new. The gun had less than a box fired through it. For some still unknown reason I had an urge to sell it, and did. I regretted it then, but even more so now. I hope to some day run across another in the same condition for a good price. I know they're out there. Lessons learned, I hope. wyatte

My first S&W purchase was a 1950 Target .45 ACP beauty. I bought it in the early '60s because I had a lot of .45 ACP ammo for my war-surplus Ithaca 1911A1. It was a sweet shooter. However, I was impressed by a co-worker's Model 28, and the power of the .357 round, so I sold the 1950 Target in order to get sufficient funds to buy a Model 28-2, which I still have. In spite of getting a Model 25-2 later, I still regret letting go of the earlier target gun. It's rare that I will sell any of my S&Ws now unless they are duplicates. I learned my lesson. I no longer sell guns to afford those of a different stripe. I'm lucky that I can afford that now; it sure wasn't that way in yesteryear.

A 4" 19-5 that I bought in 1985. It was my first S&W and my first handgun. In 1988, I traded it and a Springfield 1911 9mm for a Series 70 Combat Commander that "I just had to have."

If you're reading this, Charlie -- you really hosed me on that deal! :):):)

I had a model 10 snubby issued to me at the police department I worked at. The hammer was rusted, it was well worn from use and kind of beat up. I carved a nice pair of grips for it (I still have the scar where I slipped with 1/4" chisel) I shot it so much that it became an extension of my arm. I could only afford 100 rounds of 'Zero' reloads each week but every week I shot. I had to turn it back in when I left. Just recently I bought a similar model 10 snubby in much better condition, 35 years later. Kind of like meeting up with an old friend.

That's easy, 1953 Pre-27 and Pre-28. They were both very clean. The picture of the Pre-27 is lint and oil on the cylinder.

My first duty weapon

I bought a 629 w/4" magnaported barrel, adjustable rear sight, serrated trigger, target hammer as my duty weapon in 1984. I sold it to one of the reserve deputies for $400.00. I've been trying to get it back from him ever since. Unfortunately, I lost track of him about 2002. I'll find him...

I miss that gun.
