A few short weeks ago I was contacted on this Forum by a gentleman inquiring about my postings regarding the Master Engraver Russell J. Smith.
I have a few of R.J. Smith's works.
I also have some of his hand drawings and sketchings.
The gentleman who contacted me was R.J. Smith's nephew.
He was interested in my collection of articles.
I responded to him through our private messaging here on the Forum. Then, he disappeared.
A couple of days ago he contacted me by email and apologized for not replying. He isn't familiar with the Forum layout and did not see my response.
He wrote to tell me that Russ has passed away. He was a month shy of 101 years of age.
I called him today to get his consent for me to post this.
He mentioned that Russ's mind was sharp and that his body was just tired.
A little anecdote: Russ was in assisted living toward the end and he asked his nephew to help "break me out of here". Witty to the end.
I have attached the link to Russ's obituary.
He was a remarkable man and most assuredly did remarkable things with his life.
