Yeah I had just blown my play money/gun fund on a shiny new 7.62 AR and then this thing shows up on GB. I just couldn't let it get away. Sold one of my wrist watches to a fellow in Germany to fund the thing.

So, stay tuned for a detailed inspection with pics and a test drive report:D
And, Thanks Grinder.

Cheers
Bill

Congrats BMCM!! :)

I looked longingly at that gun. No funds to bid on it though. I'm glad it went to a good home.

IIRC the LAPD detective who originally owned it is a member here.

I look forward to your range report! Best regards, 18DAI

SWEET!

if you go to gunbroker and go to advance search then completed items and put PC 4506 for a search ….

it will take you to the completed sale.

RANGE REPORT REQUEST!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously - post pictures here! and a range report....and a report from the previous owner of WHY they sold it!!!?

SW CQB 45, Thanks for posting the link. I went to the site earlier but I couldn't find it.

So, Bill...Any tasty plans swirling around in that creative noggin of yours yet? That is one fine looking pistol, but I really can't imagine you leaving anything alone & your mods & improvements are always things that I would do, if I had your talent & craftsmanship!

Another Grinder PC gun. He sure does seem to have a nearly endless supply of them. A 4506 with a Briley bushing and fitted barrel -- must launch 230 grain projectiles like laser guided missiles! Sa-weeet! Congrats to the lucky gent that now owns it!

Well, we'll just have to see when I get it on the bench. I'm entertaining a change of sights right now. I don't much care for the appearance of the Novak Comp sight. It's hard to tell from the pictures but if there's a low mount cut under there I'll swap over to something else. Grinder seemed to think it had the low mount cut under there when I spoke with him.

So, other than that and maybe freshen up some springs then I'll take her out for a spin:D

Cheers
Bill

PC 4506

Any idea what year it was made? Is that the original box? That pattern on the back of the grip is interesting, never noticed that on any others, have you?

Looks like Steve needs to add this model to his 3rd Gen PC list.

Good snag...keep us updated!

IIRC, I had one of those rear sights on my CQB for a while. Improved sight pic for target shooting.

Mine was a plain black blade.

I bet that gun will just love a moderate load pushing a 200 LSWC!!!!!!!

Nice catch!!!!!

Congratulations! Based on the responses here, this must be a very special gun. Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but could someone explain (even if very briefly) what this gun has that a standard 4506 doesn't and what these upgrades do for performance? I went to the SCSW PC section and didn't find anything. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. I can sure "feel" the excitement, but I don't really get it!

IIRC member CALREB told us that PC 4506-1 is a one of one gun specially made for an LAPD Detective back around 1997.

It is another one of those rare guns that is not mentioned in the SCSW. Regards 18DAI

Picked it up from my dealer last night. While she's gonna need a little TLC I'm certainly not disappointed by any means:D. Let's look her over shall we?

And the other side.

The business end looks good aside from that divot on the slide's right hand leading edge. Briley bushing is still tight and crown looks good.

Looking from the right rear.

And left.
IMG_7288.jpg

Lockup is solid like a vault door, no play nor movement detectable.
IMG_7289.jpg

A few blemishes here and there, nothing that can't be easily fixed.
IMG_7290.jpg

Rear sight's a little banged up and the lamps are long dead.
IMG_7293.jpg

Not so much diggin' the skateboard ramp for a backsight either.
And she's lacking the low mount cut under there too...Hmmmm.
IMG_7303.jpg

Foresight a little banged up too also with a dead lamp. Odd non-standard dovetail I see. Looks like a 74° x .300 or so as opposed to the regular 3rd gen 74° x .250.

Overall, I'm very happy with this acquisition. There are, of course a few things that will need attention. The mags need a little freshening up. The folowers are well worn and the baseplates are a bit beat. New mag springs are in order as well.

Trigger is very nice in both DA and SA and breaks very near the back wall which I prefer. The M/S lever will need some attention though, Feels very gritty/crunchy like there's some junk in there binding things up. Methinks a new grip is in order also.

Next up... We'll have a peek under the hood. ;)

Cheers

A man of your talent ought to try a 645 back strap and drill and tap for some fancy wood grips. Just a thought.

I don't have a clue if it would work, but I think SW miss the boat keeping that setup as the models progressed. it would have opted for better grip options.

What is funny is when I started shooting back in the 80s, had me a 1911 with pachmayrs. Went through the whole grip fad buying/changing/trying/buying changing/and trying……. and today….what does my duty and competition pieces wear…..pachmayrs. go figure!!!!!

Match grade piece deserves adjustable sights!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill, I'm looking forward to what you'll do with this one!
