The perfect Model 10

I, like a lot of you, champion the Mod 10. 10-5s are my addiction. I have a few but I've seen your photos and my few pale compared to what you guys have compiled. The Mod 10 has a strange attraction to me and it's usually priced so a schmuck like me can afford to put a few back. But I digress. Mod 10's sights are, say, primative especially to my eyes. All shoot well in my experience but most of mine have to be held high or low to varying degrees. A few days ago Louie the Lump put up for sale a 5". I have two 5" versions but they appear to be unfired thus, are "safe queens". Luckily I called "dibs" first. I took it to the range today. The front blade, the rear channel, and my 158 gn. lead semi-wadcutters with 4.4 of Unique embraced like long seperated lovers. I still can't believe the morning I had. Sure, it'll pass. Next time the old Butch will show up but today I shot the perfect Model 10. My pal kept looking over to see if I had gotten out the 52-2 with the red-dot thingy. But nope, the old man with the retinapathy with an equally antiquated style of weapon on this day,shined. If I remember right, it was better'n sex.

Any particular reason why you favor the -5 over the others?

Neat story about your Model 10 shooter. Model 10s are uniquely classy.

All my Model 10s and earlier M&Ps shoot to point of aim with loads similar to yours. I've never seen one that wouldn't hit where it looks.

10-5? That just happened to be the first one I found. It was an afterthought that I need the thicker blade I'd like to add a 2" blue RB and hoping for a 3".

I'm thinking a 5" will be my next Model 10. Was planning on a 2" but I have a 2" Model 64 and I've never had a Model 10 will anything longer than a 4" barrel.

The Model 10 is a perfected revolver. That 5 incher looked good in the pics in the classifieds. You are lucky I was broke

Not NEARLY as scratched up as Saxons 10-5 (

) is mine with a Mod 64.

Some say that a short K frame is the worst of both worlds. To short in the front to be accurate and to big in the middle to be comfortable for carry.
As you can see I don't agree with that.

I too like the 2-inch Model 10 which is the best kept secret of the world of truly great concealed carry handguns. They hide easily and are easy to shoot well. They soak up recoil of +P loads. They group on paper very accurately.

Yes indeed. It's always a fun day at the range to take an Airweight J frame and my 2" Model 64. That K frame is 110% easier to shoot!

I only have one Model 10 and it's a dash five that I inherited from my Dad. It has a 6 inch barrel and only has 50 rounds through it. I have a Model 64 2 inch that I carry and I think it's a near perfect gun.

I picked this one up a couple of months ago for 275OTD,,, How could I leave this 10-2 for that price?

Picked up a very minty 10-5 last Summer. I'd wanted one for nostalgic reasons: my dad bought one for my maternal grandfather when I was a kid.

I'm a shooter, not a collector, so the gun has visited the range. To my utter delight, the sights are regulated very, very well. I shoot my holster worn 15-3 a lot more, but the 15 won't do anything (accuracy wise) the 10-5 won't. Besides, that skinny barrel/shark tooth front sight and the factory stocks/Tyler-"T" combo just look (and feel) right.

I agree, I like those 10-5s too. Just bought a 6 inch off the forum a few weeks ago and now have a WTB for a 4 and 5 inch. I really like the tapered barrel and they are really nice shooters. No safe queens for me I want to shoot them!

Here is a pic of a not for sale RB 10-5.I have been looking at two 10-5's that are for sale in two different pawnshops.One is a six inch barreled one with real stag grips.The other is a 4" RB with original grips.I need to get off my butt and snag them before someone else does.

I have two 10-5's. The top square butt is a NIB that I found with the tool and all the paperwork including the original price tag and receipt from 1968. The bottom is a 1967 that I carry when I am not carrying my M65 3 inch.

The Model 10 was PERFECTION way before Glock stole the word...My nearly new 10-7 pencil barrel is a one hole shooter with 158 gr loads as well.

I'm not sure they are better than sex, but they do beat out whatever is in 2nd place...

I am a late comer to the Model 10 love-fest; having always been drawn to the more exotic magnums, full-underlugged models, perfected N-frames and so on...

But there really isn't anything more "classic" than an M&P, especially the standard-barrel versions. Their lines look forward and backwards in the S&W history at once.

I'm looking forward to finding a nice 5" 10-5 to add to my collection. Although fyimo's 6" is a looker, to be sure...
