Dublin Dr Pepper Is No More

Dr. Pepper, like nearly all soft drink makers switched from sugar in their drinks to high fructose corn syrup years ago. Some of us die-hards refuse to drink the “new” drinks as they just don’t taste the same.

The Dr. Pepper-Snapples group has produced some Dr. Pepper with the sugar, but it can be difficult to find. Now they have prevailed in court and will be the only source for Dr. Pepper containing sugar.

I quit drinking Coke for the same reasons, but will drink the “mexican” coke with the sugar.

It will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

It's a bummer. I read an article in the FTW Star Telegram about this "drama". It seems the franchise in Dublin, TX - who has always used sugar - discovered a large market for their product outside of their territory. So much so that it was hurting corporate sales. Corporate supposedly gave the Dublin boys a couple of chances to "scale back" their marketing and distribution. Finally fed up, Corporate went to court. Looks like they won.

Too bad. The Dublin Dr. Pepper operation made a nice day trip from Fort Worth. Not to mention that the drink they produced does taste better that corn fructose concoction.

I always liked Dr. Pepper, but switched to Diet years ago. I did that to lose weight, but now I actually prefer the taste of Diet soda, and always liked Diet Dr. Pepper.
Now they have a new product, Dr. Pepper Ten. It has 10 calories and tastes remarkably like regular Dr. Pepper. (At least to me). The best part (Again, to me) is the caffeine. It has 81 mg. In comparison, Diet Coke Lime, my morning favorite, has 46 mg. This stuff has a kick!
I always hate it when an old favorite product goes away, but this stuff is good.

Not sure about other areas, but here I have been getting Coca Colas with the real sugar (original cokes) at the store. It is up to the buyer as to which type they want.

A good friend of mine retired from Dr Pepper after working there for years in top level management. I need to call him to find what the plans for the drink are. My daughter loves them.

That said, my diabetic condition appreciates the fact I gave up soft drinks. I may avg two a month now and have grown to love unsweetened tea.

They make DP with real sugar in Tyler Texas and it is sold in a can instead of a bottle. The DP that came from Dublin TX. was sold in a glass bottle only. Look for the can that says "made with real sugar" and enjoy.

One benefit to living 40 miles from the border is the abundance of Mexican soft drinks! Although I dont see Dr Pepper. I know last year they made a run of real sugar Dr Pepper in this area. Tasted quite a bit different.

Like several others here, I gave up Dr. Pepper for Diet Dr. Pepper a few years ago. Now the real stuff, cane sugar or corn syrup, tastes too sweet. I don't understand, though, why Corporate would want to squelch an apparently successful product...

Didn't know there was a time when Dr. Pepper was not awful.

Small world. I'll have to query my Sister on that she lives in Whitehouse(works in Tyler). Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I'll get her to send me some.

Interesting thread. When I was growing up, my father owned a bottling plant that Bottled Dr. Pepper, among others.

At that time, Dr. Pepper syrup was shipped to the bottler in big stainless barrels, ready for the bottling process.
All the other drinks came as concentrates to which we added 100# bags of sugar in the mixing room.

So, somewhere along the way, and various takeovers, they must have abandoned the syrup paradigm and gone cheap.

Dr. Pepper was from Texas, who knows where there are today?

All corporate legal offices have to do something to justify their existence, bloated salaries, and perks.

Easy job to pick on a small plant with lots of corporate bucks behind you; just keep throwing legal **** paper at them until they can't handle the expense any more.

Of course they were told to do it by the corporate nit-wit buyout wonder CEO of the week.
