The Russians have gone in

Am I wrong in thinking that the 155s have a range advantage on the 152s and that the Ukrainians can out range the Russians in an artillery battle. I don't have the knowledge for this.

For shooting dumb rounds, there isn't much difference between them. I suspect NATO has supplied some sexier expendables.

The Brimstone anti-armor missile systems given to Ukraine have now been vehicle mounted and tested.
Good hunting.

Friends, we've hit a milestone this evening on the Forum: This little old thread has been going for 11 weeks now, with more than 2000 posts...without being shut down. It's been viewed more than 52,000 times.

Exchanges here have been civil and respectful, highly informative, and (for the most part) within The Rules. Those of us who are outraged by Putin's crimes have here a way to express ourselves among like-minded people, and have the discussion remain on an adult level.

Thank you all very much! :)

Just wanna say, I heard a certain senator from Kentucky has delayed the latest $40B aid package to Ukraine.

I will withhold stating my opinion of said senator so as to stay within forum rules, as I understand them. But my opinion is not favorable. (I also think said senator does not understand the distinction between individual and sovereign debt.)

Edited to add that, from what I read, a few more bureaucratic hoops will need to gone through, but the aid itself is not in danger. (Unless you're the guy in the foxhole, waiting for more ammo to show up..)

Perhaps fresh perspective could be acquired by the two individuals above trading places for a few hours? I'm sure the guy in the foxhole would appreciate a hot shower and a shave, and the other fellow would gain some valuable battlefield experience. What's not to like?

Vsevolod Bobrov, a new multi-purpose supply ship of the Russian Navy has reportedly been "Snake bit" off of Snake Island, and set ablaze by Ukrainian missiles.

From an article in WaPo:

Ukraine's Defense Ministry said Saturday that a Bayraktar TB2 — a Turkish-made drone — had destroyed the Serna-class ship, which was designed to transport troops, equipment and cargo. Black-and-white footage shared on Twitter showed people onboard the vessel before it was hit by a large explosion that filled the air with dark smoke.

Last surviving Nuremberg prosecutor says Putin certainly a war criminal

Benjamin Ferencz is the last surviving Nuremberg prosecutor. He says Vladimir Putin is "certainly" a war criminal.

London — As Ukrainian authorities and the international community work to meticulously collate mounting evidence of Russian war crimes in Ukraine, the last surviving prosecutor from the Nuremberg trials of World War II-era Nazi officials told CBS News that Russian President Vladimir Putin is "certainly" a war criminal.

As Ukrainian authorities and the international community work to meticulously collate mounting evidence of Russian war crimes in Ukraine, the last surviving prosecutor from the Nuremberg trials of World War II-era Nazi officials told CBS News that Russian President Vladimir Putin is "certainly" a war criminal.

Benjamin Ferencz, now 102, fought in some of the most significant battles of World War II. He was a young lawyer, recently graduated from Harvard Law School, when he was assigned to a unit tasked with gathering evidence of the Nazi's war crimes in Europe...

...Ferencz has joined Ukraine's foreign minister, former world leaders, and legal scholars in advocating for the creation of a special Nuremberg-style international tribunal to try the leadership of the Russian Federation for the war crime of aggression, which is the act of waging an illegal war....

Ferencz offered a simple message to Putin: "Stop it… The use of force has really become obsolete in our time, because our capacity to kill has exceeded our capacity to help people, and we've got to turn that around."

Is that the song that goes

"kaboom, kaboom, kaboom,
babam, babam, babam,
kaboom, babam, kaboom?"

Bit repetitious, isn't it?
Defintely short on lyrics but goes straight to the heart/liver/spleen/engine room/gun deck, etc. I think they call it "thrash metal" or something, but I'm mostly a classical & jazz guy so wouldn't really know.

Ukraine begins first war crimes trial of Russian soldier

AOL/Reuters article here with video. He knows he's in deep doo-doo.
Vadim Shishimarin, 21, is charged with the murder of a 62-year-old civilian

A Ukrainian court held a preliminary hearing on Friday in the first war crimes trial arising from Russia's Feb. 24 invasion, after charging a captured Russian soldier with the murder of a 62-year-old civilian.

The case is of huge symbolic importance for Ukraine. The Kyiv government has accused Russia of atrocities and brutality against civilians during the invasion and said it has identified more than 10,000 possible war crimes....

Wonder what happened to all our 175 mm's? IIRC, todays 155's are very similar. I would not want to be within 1 mile of an air burst.

While Putin deserves condemnation for needlessly sending Russia's troops into harm's way, his individual soldiers are responsible for their own actions. Perhaps by putting this guy on trial immediately, the Ukrainians can deter other Russians from committing similar crimes.
