The Russians have gone in

Because we, the UK, and Russia guaranteed their permanent sovereignty.
I think that is his point.

I think from Ukraine's point of view, while grateful for our military aid, it took up us a while to step up when their sovereignty was violated — Crimea, 2014, after all — and the current assistance, while very welcome, has been limited.

Not saying I think it would be a good idea for Ukraine to have kept the nukes, but I do think Putin would have been less likely to invade them if they had.

There have been some drone videos posted lately, showing amazingly accurate long range explosive strikes on Russian equipment.

I had read weeks ago that advanced artillery shells would be provided to Ukraine, that could be used with the PzH-2000 Howitzers. One of these German made 155mm shells is called SMart, and carries a pair of sub-munitions that are independently guided by dual-mode, infrared and millimeter wave radar, seeker heads.

Once the carrier round arrives over an area and ejects it's sub-munitions, they hunt an area of several football fields size while they spiral down on parachutes. The kill is by explosively formed projectile.

This video appears to show the final portion of a SMart shell attack. You'll see a small object plummet from the sky mid-screen top, before exploding over the target to launch the penetrating molten projectile.

No one has tried to invade Israel since word got out about their nukes in 1986.

A little off-topic, but your comment reminded me of something...

I worked a while back with a guy who was the son of an Austrian Holocaust survivor. He'd been born in Israel and spent his formative years there.

I saw a reference in a news story about Benjamin Netanyahu being a combat veteran, and I mentioned to Micah that I hadn't known that. He told me, very matter-of-factly, that any Israeli who has served in the IDF is a combat veteran...

After another claimed shoot down today, there is a "feel good" story advancing around the region, about a young Guardsman's exploits using a SAM system to shoot down 6 Russian attack jets and a cruise missile.

He is being referred to as "The Avenger of Zaporizhia".

From a Polish source:

A young conscript of the National Guard of Ukraine became the terror of Rhodian pilots after he appeared on the battlefield with a handheld “Igła” air-to-air set. The 19-year-old had three knocked offs already at the end of May Su-25 for which he was awarded the title “Hero of Ukraine”.

It took only one and a half months to double the kill list. On Sunday, July 17, he added the sixth enemy machine, which he brought to the ground with the help of “Needle”. The day before it had fallen prey to him cruise missile.

After his exploits, the boy was called “the avenger of Zaporizhia”.

From BWZ's link in post 2411:

...Five months into the war, Russian air forces have failed to establish air superiority over Ukraine. Shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles, formally called man-portable air defense systems, or MANPADS, fired by Ukrainians have downed dozens of Russian military airplanes and rotorcraft. Longer range systems have kept Russia's manned strike aircraft out of the western part of the country and forced them into the MANPADS envelope near the front lines. Now, with NASAMS and IRIS-T SLM both set to arrive at some point, these numbers are likely to go up, or the effectiveness of Russian air power will continue to erode due to a lack of access to defended areas....

That is a great link. Among many items of interest, love the video of Ukrainians using commercial drones to drop homemade bombs made from soda cans on the Russian enemy.

Uncle Ed, would not surprise me to learn that they use Amazon to get their drones. (Or maybe supporters abroad use Amazon to buy and ship drones to Ukraine as a way of helping out?)

Re Coke or Pepsi, beats me. Whatever they've been drinking prior to bomb assembly?

Those are some resourceful guys and gals over there!
