One of the responders mentions having a derringer in 270 Weatherby, and says the bullets stick out the end of the barrels. That brought to mind this little episode, one day at the gun shop.
I was arguing with another feller that 303 British brass could be used to make 410 brass shotshells. He insisted that it would not work, as 303 would not fit in a 410 gun. Easy way to prove it. So I got a box of 303 off the shelf, and then started checking out the shotguns. No 410s in the shop. There was, however, an American Derringer in 45/410.
So I pulled that sucker out of the case, dropped two 303s in it, shut it, and said, "See, they fit fine". Then I looked at the gun, with the tips of the bullet noses sticking out of the barrels, and asked, "Hey, you wanna take this out on the range and see how it shoots?"
For some reason he declined, so I unloaded it and put everything back.
The stuff that happens when you ain't got no customers.
