The sotomayor hearings

There certainly is no point in complaining about the gummint overstepping its bounds when people have already decided that since it happens anyway there is nothing to be done about it.

And we wonder how things got to be the way they are....

+1! I'll complain about it until God decides times up.

Presidents and governments have governed outside the strict limits of the constitution almost since the beginning. And that includes the men who wrote it. Where in the constitution does it say the gov can acquire property? I guess that means the Louisiana Purchase wasn't valid either.
Simply because Obama didnt mention Senate approval doesn't mean he doesn't need it. I wouldn't make much of this.

From article 4: The Congress shall have power to dispose of and make all needful rules and regulations respecting the territory or other property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to prejudice any claims of the United States, or of any particular state.

"property belonging to the United States;"

From article 1 :To exercise exclusive legislation in all cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten miles square) as may, by cession of particular states, and the acceptance of Congress, become the seat of the government of the United States, and to exercise like authority over all places purchased by the consent of the legislature of the state in which the same shall be, for the erection of forts, magazines, arsenals, dockyards, and other needful buildings;

Right. Nothing there authorized the Louisiana Purchase. This was commented on at the time.

I've looked for the comment you write of, can't find it. This does indeed authorize the purchase of property. "purchased by the consent of the legislature".
