I am in Europe, specifically the Uk, now. Wife and I have been here for over a week so far and, except for immigration upon our arrival , have not had to or been required to show our passports anywhere. We were in Greece and Italy earlier this year and the same was true there. We show our driver's license when we rent a car, naturally and occasionally are asked for ID when using a CC. A driver license works for those. I have no issue with any of this ……their country, their rules. Spain is, however, something else to which I can not comment. However, we talk about surveillance on this forum often enough that I'm surprised that you all are surprised. Surveillance is everywhere, it's the modern world.
Just read any crime report from the UK and listen to the hand wringing when they say, "But the area is not covered by CCTV", like we are supposed to accept that everywhere should be. As an ex-pat, I now firmly believe that the "great" for Great Britain should only apply as a geographical descriptor.
