THE tackle box gun…

You have to love it when something is deemed broken when there is nothing wrong with it. Several years ago the lgs had a "non-functioning" 3" 657 for $250, I bought it, when I went to pick it up I brought an old sight adjustment screwdriver, tightened the strain screw and the revolver worked perfectly. The look on the sales manager's face was priceless.

Several years ago I purchased an early one in excellent condition for $260ish if I remember correctly. It was in a box but I don't remember if it was the proper box. I sold it for a whole lot more but wish I had kept it. The guy I sold it to died recently, (suddenly). I have thought of getting in touch with his widow to see if I could purchase the gun, if he still had it.

Looks good and a bargain price too. I’d be tempted to reblue it with Brownells Oxpho bluing though. I did a pre 64 Winchester 94 that someone decided the way to remove surface rust was to SANDPAPER it off thereby removing almost all the bluing on the barrel and the magazine tube! At least they didn’t use a coarse sandpaper!

I’m NOT a fan of truck guns anymore, the days of gun racks in back windows of pickup trucks are long over. Maybe because they added a back seat 🙂. IMO if you want (need) a firearm in your vehicle carry it on your person, to many “truck guns” get stolen and end up in the wrong hands,, often never reported to LE.

A true Tackle Box gun will often show tell tale signs of wear! Think VIBRATION and little or no maintenance,, for years. Here’s a little .32 that had cartridges rattling around in it for? Years? Also I’ve found, most often ONE cylinder stop cut will be worn. These guns just lay there and vibrate, the cylinder never gets turned!

I thought that I was the only one who adopted these "Ugly Ducklings", glad to learn that there are others with the same weak spot. Those that I found for sale no one else would have, they were priced as the more pleasing appearance examples would have been but I bought it anyway. Have fun and enjoy this reliable mongral who will be a good and faithful companion.

Range report:

The first box of Federal HV all went bang no issues and at 21 ft, single action, I have not one complaint! Best 2nd Amendment money I’ve spent in a long long time.

Now if you pack a J .38, say IWB appendix position, use that gun as the understudy!!! Fast draws and DA shooting from the hip!

I just picked one up recently from 1955. A little more finish left on it, but still a lot of holster wear. The worn areas have turned a brownish patina. The stocks are in really good condition though. I paid almost 4 times as much for it and believe that I got a pretty good deal.

This is a nice gun just the way it is. If it is working ok just shoot it and enjoy. A BK grip adapter won’t break the bank and will give you a little more to hold onto and will make DA shooting a little easier. I have a 34-1 2” RB from 1978. It is amazingly what can actually hit with one of these. I also have a pre model number 30 from 1955 and several model 36s. The model 34 has been a good practice and cheaper than shooting .32 or .38.

I’m hunter & fisherman, but I’ve got this to say about that. Tackle box & boat guns should not be stored in them. Have seen to many nice guns destroyed in boats, tackle boxes and tool boxes.
