Anyone watching the AMC series The Terror?
The Terror is about the fictional account of Captain Sir John Franklin's lost expedition of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror to the Arctic, in 1845–1848, to locate the Northwest Passage.
So far it’s pretty good ! ;)

I've been watching it. Or rather, I've been recording it and watching later. So far, its pretty interesting. I'll keep watching to see where it goes.

Somebody agrees!!!!

I'm watching and I like the show but wish I could understand the dialog at times. Too mumbly and too much of an english accent.

That 'mumbly' delivery seems to be fashionable over the last years. I can turn the TV up and replay lines several times and never understand what they are saying. I watched a movie last week where I had to keep replaying almost everything said.

Read the book. The show is...eh. I sort've turn it on because I want to encourage AMC, but it's not as good as I hoped it would be. The show does a better job with Franklin. He goes around puffing his chest about being such a veteran arctic explorer, eating his shoes and whatnot, while Fitzjames is left raging to himself that the whole point is to avoid having to eat your damn shoes.

If they were going to do a Dan Simmons book, they should have done The Abominable. Capt Fitzjames is the only remotely interesting character on either ship, and trying to flesh out the subplots is just going to detract from the main story. Abominable, on the other hand, has better settings, better characters, and a better plot. Many of the settings could be trimmed to make budget, as well. About the only negative is that I think that television audiences would be a bit let down by the ending plot twist.

Spoiler: not well, and not to the Pacific.

It can be a pain at times. I will sometimes turn on the closed caption feature on my TV in order to enjoy the movie better.

I was recently diagnosed with a 35-40% hearing loss==wife is not as bad but some. We use the captions whenever available. Easy to get used to and it really helps==especially with "fake" accents=Cockny, Irish (sometimes I understand the Gaelige better!), Mexican & Russian.

Also, they have Lady Silent talking and shortnening (?) the time frame. Men aren't wearing proper Arctic gear, either.

Holding our interest thus far. We shall see as events proceed.

(I've had the book for some time but haven't gotten around to reading it.)

And I find it's one that I like to watch twice.
I'm even starting to get a British accent, pip pip cheerio.
It's a different kind of drama. Dark, serious and Terrifying at times.
Enjoying it so far.
If I were a sailor I would NOT volunteer for an arctic expedition...ever!
I hate continuos cold.

I have been instead following the real finds of the Erebus and Terror shipwrecks.

I've known about the Franklin Expedition disaster/mistery since my teen years. I am just glad to still be around when thy finally found the actual shipwreck sites.

Just as a curiosity HMS Terror is featured in your National Anthem. It was one of the ships present in the bombarment of Fort McHenry.

I recommend a Serene TV listing speaker.

It has its own charging stand and the stand plugs right into the TV's headphone jack. Simple.

It's geared for hearing voices. Works a charm. One of the best things Iv'e ever invested in. Wifey loves it and we don't have to jack-up the TV volume to hear the voice tracks in movies. Its volume control is seperate from the TV.

Just set the box beside your easy chair. Bingo.
