My grand parents had passage for the Titanic as they were moving from Scotland to Canada. My uncle got sick and was put into quarantine and they didn't make the trip. Good thing as I'd likely never been born but sure would love to own their canceled tickets. I would expect they'd have been third class passengers as they were poor and not too many from there survived.
Funny thing was this was not a story I heard about until my aunt passed and read about it in her obit. Until then my Mother had not thought enough about the fact to tell me about it.

This may be in poor taste but I have a warped sense of humor so I enjoy it.

Brian that is an interesting story! It's a shame you don't have those boarding passes! ;)

What no Cheeseburgers and fries? :eek:
I think I would have been Out of luck here!;)

This has always been an item of controversy. The telegraph operator attested that he heard the song Autumn being played as he was washed overboard. He was one of the very last to leave.
Others have claimed the hymn Nearer My God to Thee was being played but several passengers who were last to leave testified they never heard the song played at all!, so I guess it's who we want to believe as to what was played!
Among all commotion and tragedy of the night how could one truly keep their wits about them? But I'm sure there were those that would remember every minute detail of the evening!

Tonights dinner will be as offered, Please dress accordingly

I have a book downstairs, That was published in November or December 1912, that is an account of the maritime review held 2 months or so after the sinking. It is a very interesting read.

The Nazi's made a Movie about the Titanic but was never released due to loseing the War but I understand that parts of the Movie were used in the later English speaking version.

That fallen mast...

But she was the grandest ship ever built and was unsinkable!

titanic-wreckage.jpg

That fallen mast may have caused the disappearance of John Jacob Astor as related by witnesses. One minute he was there and after the mast fell, he wasn't. Only 300 some odd bodies were recovered and his was one of them.

Slight adjustment....

Wasnt it reported that the last song they played was: "Nearer to GOD are We?"

Nearer My God To Thee. This isn't 100% confirmed but regardless those were some brave and stoic men. There isn't any way to know how many people were saved by keeping the passengers calm. The scene in 'A Night To Remember" is tough to watch.

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me;
Still all my song shall be nearer, my God, to Thee,

Chorus: Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!

Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
Darkness be over me, my rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I'd be nearer, my God, to Thee,

Chorus

There let the way appear steps unto heav'n;
All that Thou sendest me in mercy giv'n;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee,

Chorus

Then with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I'll raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee,

Chorus

Or if on joyful wing, cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upwards I fly,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee,

Got the chance to visit the Engineering space and speak with a few of the lads down there!
They have a very laborious task in keeping this ship running. Quite a an operation to see!
