Lets add one more.I traded for this Friday. It is a 28-2 with a 4 " barrel and smooth target stocks. This gun only has a very light cylinder ring and absolutly no blue wear. However both sight srews have been lightly booggered.I will get some pics when the weather breaks if I can keep it that long.This gun is serial # N5809XX. Thanks for the very informative thread.

Highway Patrolman

I have a 5 screw 6 inch barreled HP Serial Number S13020X. It is missing the original grips which I would love to find. Otherwise it is in about 90% blue condition..And is as accurate as I can shoot..better actually. My wife can shoot it very well I did shoot a few depredating wascally wabbits at the end of the garden last year. max of about 70 -75 yds. Really nice gun

I noticed one or two of the HP's here had white lettering on the barrel- is this a variant, for a certain dash number, or an add on aftermarket?

Thanks.

Chalk or a crayon is typically used to do that to highlight the markings for photos.

The reason I asked is I got a shooter grade this week that has what appears to be factory white letters. Wonder if someone added it after market then.

Thanks.

Recent purchase, sorry no pictures yet:

Model 28 no dash, four screw, S212xxx, 6" barrel, diamond magnas. DOB is a bit of a mystery to me. I'm guessing 1960, making this a late 4-screw no-dash Model 28s.

This is my 28-2 N239xxx that I purchased recently. Haven't shot it much, but I hope to soon. Mine has RR and target stocks as you can see.

Model 28 mania ?

Just tonight I read and looked at photos on the first several pages of this thread. Some excellent Model 28 photos here. :) I'll continue tomorrow, but in the meantime, does anyone know the weight of the 4" Model 28? Back in the '70s I owned 2 different 6" 28s and foolishly let myself get traded out out of them. :( Thanks.

4" = 41 3/4 oz.
6" = 44 oz.

BTW, I dug out my Gun Digest 1966 - 20th Anniversary Edition. The list price for a new Model 28 in 1966 was $85.00; $90.00 with target stocks. :D

So. A monthly, conservative iPhone bill is about the same today as a world class revolver was back in the day.
My day, by the way. HS grad 1968.

Just grabbed a nearly mint 6", added flawless smooth targets.............about $550 total.
Worth it.
